    An interesting read

If someone's already found and posted this, you have my apologies ahead of time. Stumbled across this today and thought I'd post it here. Reminded me of the sad JP WHM story everyone's seen on YouTube by now.

I remember Tempest. And I was in several linkshells with Jarlaxe. Great guy.

Normally it takes about 8 ~ 12 months to grow a character to level 75, assuming the player spends 5 hours a day on FFXI.
    I liked this bit.

    interesting but outdated.

does go to show how much FFXI has fundamentally changed tho

    also, jobs was never 17, it was 11 > 15 > 18 > 20

To be exact SMN came out on its own, it was after the initial jobs and advanced jobs but before RoZ jobs.

There are 17 jobs a player can choose. Each job is identical.

nope. SMN was released in the exact same update as the RotZ jobs, which was the day before RotZ released.

They added the Avatar fights later IIRC. Something about summoner wasn't released at the start and the job was increadibly gimped by it, I'm pretty sure it was the fights but I could very well be wrong.

In FFXI, killing a mob does not guarantee it drops items. The drop rate is decided by some sophisticated formula calculated by Square’s host machine.
    loooooooooool

I'm totally blaming the host machine next time I get shitty drops in Voidwatch.

job was released as a vanilla game advanced job together with the release of Zilart.. but you couldnt obtain any of the avatars without the Zilart expansion, so u'd be stuck with Carbuncle and elemental spirits. anyway even if you had the expansion, you'd need to be able to quest for them, which required high fame and beating it required you to be in a group for lv60s to stand a chance of winning.
SMN was pretty screwed up back then.
Astral flow was like 30s. avatars would still have perp cost during then too. blood pacts costed a lot more, and sucked (not accurate, lousy damage), could not magic burst or skillchain. if im not wrong avatars cost more MP than elemental spirits, and perped more too. whole thing was just screwed up.

After beating “Chain of Promathia” missions, Lubu half re-tired from the FFXI game, since there were no more challenges he could see in the game anymore.

Yeah. SMN was more or less WHM except with less Cure spells (actually SMN was basically a WHM with less spells until Astral Flow parties of 2009ish; I agree everyone, SMN should have been given Cure I-IV natively so they could sub either WAR or SAM to DD + heal with Carby out).

Though I remember my first encounter with a Summoner - A JP Summoner joined a party (in the dunes) with Fenrir out (this was just after Fenrir was released in an update in early 2004 which made it that more impressive). Used Astral Flow and then used Howling Moon on a Pugil in the dunes and dealt over 200 damage.

That's right, over 200 damage against a Pugil!

Of course I kind of don't remember what happened after that (probably stuck on Cure duty for the next 2 hours).

I remember the name Lubu, but don't think I ever had any interactions with him
However...some of those names in those screen shots I definitely know and remember.

    Very....interesting read I must say...
