Rogue is good, just go for combat advantage (you going before the monster, flanking the monster, etc.) and you'll get your extra dice.

D&D is excellent fun, hope you enjoy it. I'm going to be DMing soon for a group of noobs so hopefully it'll work out well

If you've never played before it might be a bit tough to catch or react to shit going on, but there is a ton of fun to be had.

Also, it varies by the group, but in general I find that well defined (even if, or especially if absurd) characters are just so much more fun than being "class". Like I play a monk, but my character is a combination of batman and iron man. I specialize in unarmed fighting, and can dole out massive damage, but have vowed not to take a (sentient) life, so I do all damage as nonlethal. Additionally I am a recovering (in theory) alcoholic. I have a sentient monkey friend who rides on my back, and is a radiant servant of pelor, aka heals real gud.

I hate key and peele so much, but D&D is fucking great, I've been doing it for about 6 months now, fucking love it. The shit gets so fun when you get into it with friends, I had a dwarf paladin that Rolled two 20s back to back to fuck some hot wizard dwarf, from then one, I no longer had to roll to fuck bitchs, DM told me I automatically crit

Never played D&D, but I've been playing something similar with a Warhammer IP (Warhamer Fantasty Roleplay) for a couple months now. It's a blast. Qal's got a good suggestion in that it's more fun to come in with very well defined characters and stick to that characters mind set. As you play more you'll start to understand your character better, making better choices and having more fun all around. Basically be true to your character and make choices that you think he/she would, whether those choices benefit the situation or not.
