    Why is nudity offensive?

I've heard alot of reasons, such as: it's offensive, amoral, and a sin. But i can never understand why nudity is such a horrible crime. I mean, i'm not saying that we should all live nakid even though i might enjoy that, we obviusly wear clothes for a reason. Other than someone not having the most appealing physique, i find the disdain people have for nudity completely illogical.

So can anyone make me understand why the human body is so offensive and wrong?

Because most people that want to run around naked are not people anyone wants to see run around naked.

Sure if you want to make it legal for super models to run around naked I am ok with that, but living in the country of the obese...

    Re: Why is nudity offensive?

I've heard of this one recently:

"I already try hard enough protecting my children from porn, i don't want my children exposed to this pornography when they go outside."

    Nakid body= pornography?

    Edit:

I have always believed in clothing as a means to protect vs. the weather.
Yea, that's what i imagined clothes were made for.

Because people are idiots! I think there are people who definitely need to be covered up, but to say that it's alway's offensive I think is absurd.

Rather than asking why you shouldn't run around naked, why don't you ask yourself why you should?

I'm neutral, but i'm sure that there are many more plausible reasons to wear some clothes than there are for being a noodypants.

Fuck that, I'm glad nudity is banned. Theres so many fat people, gross people, people with general hygene issues, etc. I also don't want to see some dirty 40 year old who is fat and pasty walking around with a giant boner.

-95% of the population would make me gag if I saw them naked (old people are the fastest growing demographic, think about that)

I don't mean, why wearing clothes is better, I know it's better. You aren't going to walk around nakid at 12 o clock in the afternoon unless you want cancer. I meant to say, why is nudity offensive, and why is it considered porn?

People have some general disgust for nudity, regardless of the shape of the person. (Albeit this applies less to younger liberal people)

    Kuya,

Does your mother have an email address? Would you mind if I emailed her a picture of my hair balls?

I do kind of agree with the whole nudity!= porn, but I have to draw the line with how disgusting most people(including myself) look naked.

Exactly. Imagine the cast of the Simpsons . . . naked.

Yes. As long as men think the way they do, a naked body is enough to be considered porn. People are really horny.

I never see the point of nudity in movies. It never, ever in my experience "enhances the art". All it does is provide fap-material. Almost any nude scene(well, love scene) can be done without nudity and probably increases the sexiness of it because it leaves more to the imagination.

    Re: Why is nudity offensive?

It really just has to do with courtesy and discretion.

I wanna see you naked about as much as I wanna hear about how much your tooth hurts, keep your balls and your problems to yourself.

Nudity is and always will (should) be something intimate and personal, we suspend that idea in places where it's necessary (locker rooms, beaches, etc) but there's a time and place for everything, being naked in public is unnecessary and obscene because there's no reason to be naked in public and I don't wanna see you naked in public.

Imaging we're a nudist society, you head out to the dentist's office and have a seat in the waiting room. A fucking hot 20 year old woman walks in and sits down, every guy in the room starts getting a raging hard on, that's not obscene? What if there was a kid there too, he sees all of this going on, that's not obscene?

    Re: Why is nudity offensive?

From the American perspective, nudity is offensive because as things currently stand it's seen only in a sexual context. It's still surreal to me that on TV it's more of a taboo to see someone dismembered, shot, etc. than to see a naked body outside of sexual context.

If nudity were more commonplace, it wouldn't be offensive because there's nothing inherently offensive about it - it's only become that way over time, and the system perpetuates itself. I really don't think male attitudes towards sex really factors in here, because guys will find a way to get riled up over anything short of a Burqa...

Ideally, I think we shouldn't care. But on the other hand, I really like the fact that I've never seen my grandpa's balls.

That would be hilarious if she had a computer, and Devek i don't think you look as bad as you think.

Why is it obscene? If the kid is old enough he should already know what's going on, and if he's younger, you can easily make up some sorry excuse for what's going on. But that's beside the point, as i'm not advocating we all live nakid from now on.

I think there are alot of reasons why we see nudity as such a terrible thing. First being religion.

Nudity, or nakedness, has been a matter for controversy since Adam and Eve appeared in the Garden of Eden leading some to believe that it was sinful not to have a fig leaf to cover your private parts. The good old days - like the Greeks' nude Olympics - eventually ended around the 8th century when they stopped baptising Christians naked.

Lets not forget that our society places these ideals of bodily perfection, while at the same time leading us to physical inhability. All this does is not only objectify a certain image but makes people feel ashamed of their own bodies.

Curiously, it is the fully clothed person who feels uncomfortable walking into a nudist colony. But when Peter Sellers in "A Shot In The Dark" found himself in one and was obliged to shed his garments, he held a Spanish guitar in front of him to avoid embarrassing himself.
Whereas nude sun-tanning - for some - is only mildly offensive, gratuitous nudity is - as it is perceived in Cave - definitely immoral.

Like Devek stated, people feel unfit and embarrased about being nakid, that doesn't really help the issue now does it?

And from a pole on some pop culture news site:

    *...Full-frontal female nudity: Offensive.........63%........Okay..........35%

*...Full-frontal male nudity: Offensive........67%.........Okay.........30% Men would be less averse to actresses appearing nude on TV; a bare majority of 53% would be upset, as opposed to 72% of women. The idea of naked male actors is more disturbing to both sexes: 60% of men and 74% of women.
We have clothes now for a reason and we shouldn't run around nakid for obviuos reasons. But the idea of nudity shouldn't be so taboo.

I was more referring to how the woman would feel.

Put yourself in her shoes (zing! shes naked, get it?) if you noticed every creepy guy with a boner in the room wanted to screw you, wouldn't you be a little uncomfortable? You could apply that to a situation where she was clothed and everyone else wasn't, it would still be incredibly awkward and, in my opinion, obscene to blatantly lust after someone else in public.

Anything that comes off as directly sexual doesn't belong in public, the key parts of the body that we cover up are those with a sexual purpose and the ones that show that someone is sexually excited. When one's sex organs are exposed it's not too hard to see how nudity can be interpreted as sexual.

Nudity in proper context is fine though, someone mentioned the ancient Greek Olympics, which is a good example of appropriate nudity. It's an event that exhibits the capability of the human body. Nudity on TV and in film is also fine, the taboo that exists there stems from the Christian values Western society was born from, parents scared shitless that their kids learn about what sex is all about. As long as its portrayed in an appropriate manner as something normal and natural and not always sexual then I don't see the harm.

Yea i agree with what you said, but it's not like it's any different now. With an attractive chick passing by and guys giving her cat calls, and her being disgusted. A nakid man is no different than a dressed man these days, as they will both let you know quite quickly if they're interested.

edit: it would make finding out who's gay and who's not easier though. 8)

Anyone who argues that nudity isn't obscene obviously hasn't seen Borat the Movie. . .
