    Headed to Tokyo

Hey hey! So Serif and I are headed to Tokyo around April 11th, 2013. If Conformity comes, we will be heading there in mid-May (to avoid Golden Week). Currently, the plan looks like 4 nights in Shinjuku, 4 nights Shibuya, and then 3 nights in Roppongi.

I just wanted to post some of the clubs, bars, sights, etc which we have mapped out so far and see what we are missing. If there is anyone with Travel experience to Tokyo, please assist by listing anything we are leaving out, which is likely a lot. Thanks!

    Clubs/Bars:

    Womb
    Ageha
    GasPanic
    Trump Room
    Bar Rage
    Warehouse702
    Muse
    Icebar Tokyo

    Restaurants: (Could use help here!)

    Alcatraz ER
    Robot Restaurant
    Gundam Cafe
Izakaya - Warayakiya / Uoshin / Andy’s Shin Hinomoto / Various Ebisu spots

Areas: (Sure I am missing some good ones)

    Akibahara
    Harajuku
    Shinjuku / Kabukicho
    Roppongi
    Shibuya / Ebisu
    Asakusa

    Events/Sights:

Sumo (If we go in May)
    Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden
    Mori Tower for the 52nd-floor
    Meiji Shrine
    Senso-ji (Asakusa)
    Arcades (Taito/Sega/Big Box)
    Hachiko Statue
    Tsukiji fish market

    Hostel/Hotels:

So far I found these 3, which were relatively cheap and in good locations:

    Shibuya area: http://www2.gol.com/users/ryokan-fukudaya/

    Shinjuku area: http://www.toyoko-inn.com/e_hotel/00078/index.html

    Roppongi: http://www.theb-hotels.com/the-b-roppongi/en/

    Thanks again!

Go find some bars/restaurants in Meguro. It's where locals go to spend lots of money and avoid the crowds of tourists and children that invade Shibuya. It's pretty upscale, the last time I was there. Less Yakuza than Shinjuku, too.

Akihabara has gentrified lately, so you can find some nice restaurants and bars there nowadays.

This is the last hotel I stayed in Tokyo and it was nice. Not "EVO suite at Caesar's" nice but it was not too expensive. Might be a bit too far north to conveniently walk there after a night of drinking but cabs in Japan are everywhere.

@Abandon: Dude, you better come out with us one night at least.

@Gokku: Thanks for the anime and M's store.

A lot depends on how much money you are planning on spending.

    Things to see:
    Sky Tree
    Tokyo Tower
Ginza and/or Omotesando for shopping and seeing people sitting in the middle of the street in Ginza
Yoyogi Kouen (adjacent to Meiji Jingu)
    Imperial Household/Budoukan?
Odaiba - Miraikan, Rainbow Bridge, possibly boat tour to/from Asakusa
Municipal Government Building (Tochou) for a decent free view of Tokyo from pretty high up
Lots of Museums to see if you are so inclined

If you have the time and money I would take the first Shinkansen to Osaka or Kyoto, there is tons to see there. You can take the last one back if you want to make it brief, or stay a night and take more time. If you do this it would probably be worthwhile to get a JR Pass.

If you go during Hanami season, you must do Hanami. Getting drunk in a park all day long is fantastic.

I'll probably think of more later.

edit: Gundam is in Odaiba, which is a pain to get to compared to other places (usually about 40 minutes/1000+ yen) but there is other stuff to see there as well. If you really want to see it it's not that bad.

That Gundam cafe is lame. Went there the other day. The menu is really small and there isn't much of a Gundam feel to the atmosphere.

To skip Kyoto after coming to Japan is up to you guys; you could squeeze it with 2 days easily. Plus, you will also get to take the Shinkansen, which is an experience itself. Or do Kyoto->Osaka or Kyoto->Hiroshima... 3 days of Roppongi would exhaust me since everyone stays out all night until the trains start up again. Also, the bars in Roppongi are expensive to enter at a minimum, you will spend $250 a night. Just do 1 day of there and go West. You will be close to Cherry Blossoms if you are going in April. If they are not blooming in Tokyo yet, they will definitely be in Kyoto.

Considering I'm 6'3", they must be true midgets. D:

I'd still be interested in seeing the Yakuza. I wonder how they treat nigras.

They're a bunch of little bitches lol. Animes, movies, and mangas play them up like crazy. A local gang from Georgia headed by a jew can probably dethrone the Yakuza lol.

I wish I could, but I really gotta see how my schedule is. I talked to Milad about it a bit and told him the same. If I can get up there, I'll be there for sure.

I am looking forward to partying until 5AM and waiting on the 6AM train, so 1 night of that is for sure not enough XD For sure will hit up Womb 2x and Ageha once.

Could you tell me how much it is to go to Kyoto by Shinkansen and back to Tokyo the next day? The JR pass seems like a ripoff if we only go to Kyoto for 1 day. There seems like way too much to do in Tokyo cities to spend so much time traveling to Osaka/Hiroshima. Am I wrong?

When I went in 2002, my friend and I got Green car (1st class) JR passes. One trip to and from Kyoto and it pretty much paid for itself. It was also nice to not have to deal with ticket machines on the local trains. Just flash the pass at the assistance window at each station and walk right through. It also gave us peace of mind knowing we never had to have spare cash on us in case we decided to jump from one part of the city to another, and if we got bored somewhere we never felt like, "We just spent money to get here and it feels like a waste leaving already."

Is it worth it to have the JR pass if we stay in Tokyo the entire time? I have read its not worth it at all. Paying $400 for a JR pass seems like a waste if we stay to Shinjuku / Roppongi / Shibuya. I can see buying a 7 day one if we are going outside of Tokyo.

We were planning on buying a Saicu pass when arriving at Narita. If we stay in Tokyo, can we just buy this Saicu package and refill the card as we go?
