    Looking for a laptop replacement

I bought this laptop for my Uncle (with his money) about a year...year and a half ago:

My uncle left his laptop on a plane about a week ago, and pretty much as written off the fact that it's gone for good. I'm looking to get him the same thing... spec wise, as well as dimensions, but I just can't seem to find the right laptop for him. His budget is 1500$ or less, and things he likes: Webcam, Security, lightweight, battery, slim, fast. He is a HUGE traveler, always on the move flying to Dubai, Netherlands yadda yadda, so portable is key. He's open to new things as well, I prefer windows 7 seeing how I don't think he will like Windows 8.

What is the machine used for?

If it just needs to be ~12 inch or so, there's plenty of options that aren't super thin that could work fine. A brother of mine travels a lot and finds his clevo w110er perfect for the task, though he doesn't like its power brick lol. Powerful little machine, though has a little age on it now. Think he configured it with an i7 and 16gigs of ram (includes an nvidia 650M w/optimus). It's really nice. He got it from xoticpc, which has a no-OS option among a few dozen options. Comes with driver CD that only has drivers amazingly enough (no added crapware).

If it needs to be thin and light above all else, hard to beat the macbook air or some of its clones.

Doing fresh install yourself will make most machines pretty quick, along with the obvious use of a SSD, as the OS is not bogged down with OEM shitware.

Could also check out dell/lenovo/etc outlet sites if you're feeling lucky. You can sometimes find really good deals, though being outlet means it was used: refurbished and scratch/dent/wear usually.
