PS Blog has announced the release date so now's as good a time as any to have a thread on this.

In Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, you take on the role of Makoto Naegi — an excruciatingly ordinary teenager who one day finds himself accepted into Hope’s Peak Academy.

Looks like Makoto’s got enough to deal with trying to find his place amongst Japan’s teen elite, but things get a little tougher when he suddenly falls unconscious and finds himself rudely awakened by an evil black and white robot bear calling himself Monokuma. He announces to the students that they’re all locked in, and the only way out is to kill another student and get away with it. Pretty much the beginning of every high school movie ever. There’s a catch, though – if you get outed as the killer, then you’ll face Monokuma’s deadly punishment, and if you do get away with murder, you’ll be dooming your other classmates to death.
Developed by Spike Chunsoft, the same company behind 999 and Virtue's Last Reward, so if nothing else the premise of the murder mystery and quirky action gameplay should appeal to fans of the visual novel genre.

There's gameplay video about but it's all EXTREMELY SPOILERY. The quickest intro I could find is video from a fan-translated patch to the Japanese demo, but even then you're spoiling yourself.

IS America is thrilled to announce that the highly popular mystery adventure game, Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, will be making its way to the PlayStation Vita in North America on February 11, 2014 and in Europe on February 14, 2014 in both retail and digital form, and is available for preorder now. The game is a revised and revamped edition of the first Danganronpa that was originally released on the PlayStation Portable in Japan in 2010. You'll take on the role of Makoto Naegi, a desperately average teenager who somehow finds himself accepted into Hope's Peak Academy, a prestigious high school normally reserved for the nation's most "ultimate" students. But when he arrives, he and the other students soon find themselves trapped in a battle for survival against a twisted mastermind who has taken them all prisoner. You'll have to unmask the villain and uncover the secret of the school...or die trying!

    Story

Hope’s Peak Academy is home to Japan’s best and brightest high school students—the beacons of hope for the future. But that hope suddenly dies when Makoto Naegi and his classmates find themselves imprisoned in the school, cut off from the outside world and subject to the whims of a strange, murderous little bear named Monokuma. He pits the students against each other, promising freedom to anyone who can murder a fellow classmate and get away with it. It’s up to you to find out who Monokuma really is, and why you’ve been taken from the world you once knew. But be careful what you wish for - sometimes there’s nothing more deadly than the truth…

    Key Features

Daily Life, Deadly Life: Trapped in a school-turned-prison, students are murdering each other one by one. You’ll have to investigate each incident, search for clues, and talk to your classmates to try and get to the bottom of each brutal case!

Mock Trial: The nefarious Monokuma serves as judge, jury, and executioner as you engage in deadly wordplay, going back and forth with suspects, dissecting their statements and firing their words back at them to expose their lies!

Popularity Contest: Sway classmates to your side in each investigation, squeezing information from them to figure out who did it. And when you do, turn up the heat in a variety of timing and reflex-based game systems to uncover the truth and save your skin!

Huh, didn't know they were planning on translating this. This game is awesome. Don't think there's an english trailer yet, so here's the JP one:

Can't really show any more gameplay without totally spoilering the game, unfortunately

The anime was pretty interesting, though it looks like they're making the game based on the anime which was based on the game?

Game came first on PSP. Then the manga and anime were made as spinoffs. This is a rerelease of the PSP game for Vita. Even if you've watched the anime and completely spoiled the culprits/executions, you will still enjoy this games intersection of 999, Phoenix Wright, P3 Social Links and Bemani action.

No, the anime is based (very faithfully) on the game.
The english game isn't a remake or something new, it's just a translation of the original.

I'm definitely interested because the anime was good (even though no one seemed to care or talk about it), but I honestly though it was a remake of the original based on the anime, which just seems weird.

    Out today. Go go go.

Rumors going around that the localization of the (very highly regarded) sequel is underway.

I suspect the intersection of Vita owners and those who enjoy visual novels is strong, so go support this. NISA has a press event Feb 13 so it's possible we'll get some announcements then.

The English voices are pretty hit or miss depending on the character. Like for example, I think Togami's is probably one of the better ones, but Hagakure's is real special.

Glad to finally have one of my favorite games get an official localization though.
