    Women rights? On rollback sale!

Lock if this should be in the feminist thread. Also on cell phone so typos and grammar errors otw!

With the current political shift in America the GOP and the tea party stand poised to make alot of sweeping and potentially dangerous changes to laws in America.

Are womens rights up for the chopping block? mostly reference to abortion / access to health care. We're already seeing some crazier States limiting rights and access. You have ninja abortion hotlines that are actually attempting to persuade ladys not to get one. And the hobby lobby rulings . I'm sure if I really try'd there's alot more than just that going on. Is any of it a concern for actual ladys?

Lock this if it's not needed also if I need to link to everything I brought up I can do so in 5 hours or so.

From what I've seen, states who try to push limitations on abortion that de facto eliminate it always lose in court. Hobby Lobby was also a court decision and has nothing to do with the legislative branch.

I think it would be political suicide at this point, though, not that it has stopped either party before.

But they lost a lot of votes/seats/popularity in wasting so much time on social issues (particularly during the economic downturn), all the while toting jobsjobsjobs and "why are Dems focusing on healthcare when we need JOBS!?" If the first thing they do when they regain control is go back into social issues again, they're gonna screw themselves over come the next re-election & presidential race.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

no need for lock, I prefer not everything to get lumped into one thread as is.

I think I can see why people would be scared, and it is sad that we are at that point.

But yea, if the repubs want a shot at the presidency in two years, I don't think they will do anything.

I'm not worried about *national* laws... where republicans have had vast success in the recent past is gerrymandering the shit out of districts, winning lots of state houses, and passing laws on local and state levels where a president's veto pen can't reach. Then they ride the wage of rage to the state level and try to pass the same bullshit.

The descision actually has quite a bit to do with congress. The ruling was not based on the first amendment but on the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. Which basically means that if congress wanted to change the law, they could. Clearly that won't be happening anytime soon though.
