Congress introduces a national abortion ban on its first day back.

    http://thinkprogress.org/health/2015...week-abortion/

On Tuesday, the very first day of the 114th Congress, two lawmakers introduced a measure to ban abortions after 20 weeks, in direct violation of the protections afforded under Roe v. Wade. Reps. Trent Franks (R-AZ) and Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) reintroduced the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, the same legislation that successfully passed the House last year.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) — who introduced a companion 20-week abortion ban in the Senate last year that was stalled by Democratic leadership — has already indicated that he plans to re-introduce his own measure in the next few weeks, too. Now that the Senate is GOP-controlled, Republicans are anticipating that they’ll have enough support to pass the ban in both chambers this year, helping the anti-choice community gain momentum for this particular tactic to limit reproductive rights.

What in the actual fuck makes politicians think they have a right to control women's bodies?

Do yall think this can even pass the senate and the house? if so president will most likely veto it right?

If thats not possible is there grounds to strike it down as unconstitutional?

I don't think there is enough votes in the senate to override a presidential veto, but worst case supreme court would stamp this out.

Day 1 Supreme Court objection. The real question is, wether these law makers read the laws.

I'm not very familiar with how these things work, but don't the Supreme Court Justices have party alignments as well? If there are enough of them one way or another, couldn't they let this slide?

It would still have to be voted, and so far they have majority voted against most abortion restriction bills, though some on the state level have managed to be approved.

Not necessarily. There are some who feel that if given the chance, the conservative justices would reverse Roe v Wade. That said, there aren't enough votes to stop a filibuster, so I doubt it'd even get that far.

Republicans sure know how to make themselves unelectable for presidential elections.

Wow. This is the stupidest possible fucking thing they could have focused on in the entirety of all humankind after coming back from an election.

It's only stupid to us "filthy libruls". To the backwoods redneck conservatives, of which there are depressingly quite a lot, this is priority #1. Fuck climate change, renewable energy, poverty, or education. There's innocent babies being MURDERED and we must end it (so that we have more ignorant children to indoctrinate into our cult)!

Just in case you missed it, they've also already introduced legislation/rules to go after SS, the CBO, Wall Street regulation, and the ACA. They also approved rules that continue the Benghazi panel with no time limit or budget. Oh yeah... they're also trying to take credit for the economy improving.

I think the only thing they missed was same-sex marriage?

If stem cells were considered a fossil fuel I bet this discussion would be totally different

they're also trying to take credit for the economy improving.
While at the same time saying it's not improving due to Obama and how people have given up looking for jobs and don't count against the decline in unemployed numbers. As a politician you can have your cake, eat it, and sell it to other cake lovers all at the same time!

This is the #1 thing I will never understand about the conservative viewpoint. If they cared about life so much and they continued to care so much about all the homeless children or the ones with bad parents, I could at least see their viewpoint. But the moment that kid is born, fuck you, you're on your own. I will never understand it.

George carlin said it best, "conservatives want more live babies so they can raise more dead soldiers" or something to thar effect.

So much fucking this. I'm pro choice regardless but this fucking argument isn't brought up nearly enough.
They are pro birth when it comes down to it with no regard or personal responsibility to the life itself.

I have a dream that one day, krusty old white men won't try to tell me what I can and can't do with my uterus.

I mean really 20 weeks is a long time to have been pregnant - it's 5 months after all - but I just don't like the idea that they need to keep putting restrictions on this, especially where in some states, you already have to drive hours to get to a facility that can even legally perform them because of all the rules and regulations about what types of facilities can even perform them. But then again, who cares about the mother and her health, right? She's just an incubator, it's not like she's an actual person or anything.

The entire abortion debate is fucking aggravating beyond belief.
