An exploitable mess of a card game
Not even sure what the hell to call this
A few conjectures can follow from this, so instead of bolding the sweet conclusions, I'll just post the information obtained while trying to determine if MDT affects breath damage.
Base Breath damage: 840
Damage with Avalon Body: 840 (No effect)
Damage with 5PDT+5MDT Ring: 800 (~5% Reduction)
Damage with 5PDT + 5MDT Ring + Shell: 800 (~5% Reduction; Shell has no effect)
Damage with Dragon Harness's 10BDT: 757 (~10% Reduction)
Damage with Dark Ring 5PDT + 4BDT + 6MDT: 757 (~10% Reduction; notice BDT+MDT=10)
Damage with Twilight Torque + 5PDT + 5MDT: 760 (~10% Reduction, but less reduction than BDT + MDT which equaled 10BDT)
Review:
- Shell does not affect breath damage
- Avalon does not affect breath damage
- Dark ring's MDT affect's breath damage
- Dark Ring's BDT+MDT shows equivalent reductions seen by 10 BDT from Dragon Harness
- Twilight Torque + Dark Ring MDT reduction is less than 10BDT from Dragon Harness (Which was equal to Dark Ring's MDT+BDT)
The next set of tests: See whether Avalon's MDT was completely removed and see whether Dark Ring reduces Breath Damage during Ballista.
Avalon (Top DMG), No gear (Other DMG): 25DMG Difference (Not 5% reduction, but ballista changes the formula for damage)
No gear (Top DMG), Dark Ring 5PDT+5MDT (Other DMG): Again, damage reduction ~3%, but Ballista changes formula
Review:
- Avalon is not broken (Just doesn't work on breath spells; seems to be the same type of reduction as shell since shell does not affect breath dmg)
- Dark rings work on breath spells even though shell and avalon do not
-
I'd call it weird. Possibly something odd happening with the augment parameters causing the game to thing that the rings are augmented with more BDT than they are or something.
-
Did you try a dark ring without/with only -PDT?
-
Yeah was just gunna ask because what if it is actually the pdt lowering the dmg? I mean that's the common factor in what did work and what didn't

We tested PDT and found PDT was not the cause (I had filters at the time, so I didn't take pics of the reduced damage).
-
Did you specifically test -PDT from Dark Rings?
-

Not from Dark rings, no (Umbra cape). I don't have any rings without the PDT+MDT, but I'll try to find someone with those in a sec. However, that would also make the results weird because we saw 757 twice. Once with dragon harness (10% BDT) and again with the 5PDT+6MDT+4BDT. If PDT is the cause, then 5PDT+4BDT = 10BDT lol.

Had 50% PDT gear on and continuously took 840 damage regardless if the PDT was on or off. There might be an invisible PDT/MDT/BDT term in ballista that's calculated BEFORE DT% from gear. Heat Breath should have done 750 with 1500 HP but was doing 609 and Digest which has a set damage depending on BLU skill was also getting strange damage. Both Heat Breath and Digest's damage were reduced by strange amounts and when he put on MDT or BDT gear (5%) it was reduced by even less (close to 3%) for the respective spell which I think means the Ballista Damage Taken term is calculated before gear or something. It could also be that the lower your HP the more Ballista Damage Taken% you get because as Yugl dropped lower in HP, my Heat Breath damage was gimped even more (from 609[[fullhp]] to 586[[around half hp]] to 572[[300ish HP, killed him with this breath]]) Could be similar to how in certain arcade style fighting games, player's damage scales the closer they are to dying, to give them a sporting chance or to make the fight more exciting/last longer or to promote comebacks. Think SE might have added a special DT when near death or some kind of scherzo like effect that reduces damage if it takes off a substantial portion of you HP. This of course is a hypothesis and requires specific testing, but yea just adds further evidence to support that Ballista is a bad fucking place for damage tests.

Tested the PDT with someone else.
His ring had 6PDT+4BDT, but my ring had 5PDT+4BDT+6MDT. If PDT caused reduced damage, breath would have done more damage to me than him. However, if PDT is not the cause, my damage taken would be significantly less.
My damage taken was significantly less. Thus, this has to be the MDT on the ring.

Looks legit, I guess shit's just weird.
-
So just spaghetti code augment fail then? Don't use it too much before SE determines it was a glitch you are taking advantage of!

Looks like this may be particular to all augmented items:
-
Question. Does balaur always do the same dmg breaths or something?
-
An exploitable mess of a card game
At near 100%, he always uses Blizzard and Thunder breath. All tests kept him ~96% or higher (Probably 98%). Both breaths do 840 damage base (So we know his breath attacks cap at that much damage).
-
I see. Does he do other breaths?
-
An exploitable mess of a card game
At under 50% he uses other breaths. I haven't tested those, but I don't see why those would affect which items activate.
-
Oh just wondering for future testing purposes for my jug pets

Looked into objectively defining Spirit Damage. Had Kalley, Siatdiat, and Lilia help out during this.
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/fjx49zv3m...ge%20Reduction
Spirits Within:
BDT affects damage, MDT/MDB does not
Dark Ring MDT affects damage (Remember these have BDT properties imbued with the MDT traits)
1k Needles
MDT affects damage, BDT doesn't (Known)
Heca Wave
BDT affects damage, MDT does not (Expected)
Seems Spirit damage is just a term for using the BDT multiplier? Any spells/moves we consider spirit damage that would bypass this rule? There was a claim about Odin doing spirit damage and most spirit damage is HP based (Chi may be the exception if that even uses BDT). This is interesting since the damage varies with mob HP meaning the formula simply uses mob HP instead of player HP (The general method) when calculating damage. So yeah.
-
Is Atonement also Spirit damage? This would explain why breaths and atonement both suck on new content.
This kinda makes sense considering that Spirit's is an HP-based move.

I don't have that WS lol. I'll see if Sithel does though since he was helping test this.
