Only a couple of weeks away. I really loved SH2 back then (SH3 as well). The developer, team bloober has been hit or miss so far. Do you think they’ll be able to pull this project off? They do have some talent for sure and the incredible SH2 material is already in their hands so this may end up being pretty good actually.
Konami could’ve made the project with more team silent involvement but its Konami and I really struggle to understand them. They abruptly decided to kill their leading franchises while they were in their peak popularity and decided to focus on “mobile”. Killed the only FIFA competitor (lucrative as hell) and turn it into a free to play mobile game.
Apple equivalent would be Tim Cook announcing that they’ll focus on printers from now on rather than iphone/mac.
Anyways, I guess the recent remake trend had been way too difficult to involve due to incredible revenue potential.
The first time they showed the game I was very sceptic, the more recent trailers kinda improved that but I stay overly catious because yeah, Bloober. I do hope it will be good though because I loved the original and it would be awesome for another Polish company to get a win like that
Reviews are in. 5/5 from Eurogamer. Good game Bloober team. They’ve been lacking in storytelling and creativity but when those are given to them they show their talent.
87 average at MC, we are so back. the original is probably my favorite horror game of all time, guess i'm there day 1 for this
Yeah do it. Initial impressions:
Very well optimized on PC.
Very loyal to the original style
In the original James was poor with weapons, had tank controls because… well James was just a regular husband. Bloober modernized controls without entirely take that feeling away and kudos to them.
Overall, must buy for SH fans and newcomers. Expect RE style remakes of other SH games as well.
Just got through the apartments myself and met Maria. Yeah, it's a win. Good for you, Bloober. Sure, I could nitpick some stuff here and there, people often compare it to RE2 remake, I'd say it's not as polished, but definitely close. Runs and looks decent enough on my mid PC too.
This remake is incredible. Super well done. A couple of the voices are a bit off. Eddie mostly (though I only heard him once) but other than that, it's making me shit my pants all over again.
I have never played the OG, but I really wish I did. This remake is incredible and the best part in my opinion is the audio. They do some really freaky and unique stuff in the game. Way better with headphones btw.
the original is one of my favorite games of all time and so far this is a banger remake, feeling almost every choice they made. and yeah the audio design is nightmarish, swelling discordant dread combined with desolate isolation, headphones on at night lights off, fugghedaboudit. arguably the best aesthetics of trauma in the medium in either 2001 or 2024.
also the gameplay is so, so much better man, Bloober killed it. PC optimization a little janky THO.
Yeah when I first booted I was getting literally like 5 fps and was like what in the actual fuck. Reddit had already figured it out, turning off Hardware Accelerated GPU scheduling fixed it immediately. Only game I've ever had that actually be an issue with it on.
So how much of the game still feels like SH2, and how much of it feels like a REmake game with a Silent Hill skin on top? Everything I've seen on the camera handling and combat suggests the latter, which a far heavier emphasis on combat than the original ever had.
