    microphone problem

ok, before i get "fuck you this isnt tech support", im trying to get all the opinions i can.

ok, so i log onto my vent server today.. and while i try to talk, my speakers sound goes through instead of my talking, and nobody can hear me.. and even when i unplugged my microphone, it still happened.. which is odd.. because i use a headset, no speakers.... so... would this mean my sound card is fucked? before i came to that thought.. i did system restore to when i last used it and the microphone was working a-ok... and it didnt fix it.. so it brought me closer to the though of it being fucked. so... if anyone can give me any opinions/links to a new soundcard thats pretty good but not too expensive, much would be appreciated....

    thanks.

Check your vent settings. I can't really open it right now but make sure the input device is your microphone, not sigma-tel whatever.

Check your System sound settings and make sure the mic is the input. Sometimes the speakers get set to input, and nobody knows why.

Something similar to this happened to me, and noone knew what the hell was wrong. Basically, whenever I get on TS2, the sound output from my headphones goes directly into the sound input of the mic on my headphones. I can hear everything fine, but my headset just doesn't work anymore. I tried messing with all kinds of settings on the computer and nothing worked... I assume the problem is with my headset.

if you use creative drivers / software, change the recording source from "what you hear" to microphone.

I've fixed this problem for practically a thousand people.

    1. Right click on the volume control(speaker icon in the bottom right corner).

    2. Click adjust audio properties.

    3. On the top, there will be five tabs, click the audio tab.

    4. In the audio tab, there are 3 sections, top middle and bottom. The middle section should be labeled sound recording. Click the volume button in the sound recording section.

    5. Click the checkbox on your microphon slider. (This checkbox selects which device is used as your recording device.

    6. Optional, if you need a boost in mic volume, click the advanced button on your mic slider, then check the mic boost checkbox if its available.

So for some reason my mic decides that it wants to fuck up. When I get on TeamSpeak, I have the settings on voice activation. Anyways, the problem is that the sound output from my headphones seems to be directly going into the input. This means that people are getting massive echo because their voice coming from my headphones goes right back to them.

I didn't change any settings that would cause this, but apparently my brother, who uses Ventrilo, made some changes in Ventrilo. Anyone have an idea of what the cause could be? I don't think it's a problem directly related to the mic (probably settings).
That was my original post in the thread I made. I'm still having the same problem.

The information I gave you should solve your problem. If it is unchecking, check to see that your microphone is plugged in. If it is plugged in, your microphone wire may be dead, try a new microphone.

I'm not really familiar with that problem of it not letting you check the box or it automatically unchecking. But my guess would be its because your computer is not recognizing a microphone plugged in.

The only other thing I would suggest is if you have soundcard software, sometimes sound cards come with their own software, and sometimes those settings will overwrite default windows settings. I'd look through your soundcard software to see if you can find a place to select your recording device.
