ok ok i know. this is a game forum. but i though ppl on here could help me withing having to deal with microsoft. (but i will if i have to)


So um... My computer wont reconize ANY kinda of CD or DVD drives. Has anyone had this happen before? I have an internal CDwritable drive that my computer cannot see. and i tried using my EXternal DVD drive and my computer is giving me errors with that as well. When i goto device status this is what it shows.

also... i did try to uninstall the drivers. then i used the scan for new hardware function and had them reinstalled. said there was an error during instalation and the device might not work properly.

Honestly reinstalling the driver should work.

When was the last time the drives worked and what did you do to it that they stopped working?

My advice is go to the drives website, get the newest driver and uninstall the drivers, restart the computer and when it prompts you (dont reinstall manually) browse to the new driver and do it that way.

Also, if you mess with the reg, make a backup first, and also make sure you have a recent systemstate set.

i dont use my CD drives that much except to play games that require CDs. so prolly about a months ago was when the last time i used it. i went to go burn a CD through WMP and i couldnt find the drives. ill take your advice and give it a try when i get home tonight. Thx

Maybe you have Starforce copy protection installed and messing things up. See here for info on how to detect and remove it if you have it: http://www.glop.org/starforce/detect.php
