Before anyone else just keeps quoting this... When has POL been reliable enough to stay connected for a full 24-hours without some random DC? And you know that random DC will happen 10min after XBLive maintenance starts.

My POL has stayed connected for a week and a half before, when I left my machine on while I was on holiday.

Maybe frequent d/c is a PS2 limitation

I almost never dc from FFXI because of FFXI. Usually my DSL hiccups (I'm on a wireless connection with my houses router) or my computer simply crashes. If my connection stays solid and my computer doesn't crash I could probably be online for over a month straight without logging off once. In fact, I may have done this before at some point...

and xboxlive has updates like this ONCE a year, not every-other-day... and here's a novel idea, they actually ADD meaningful shit. besides:

1) log to xboxlive is seemless, by the time pol boots you're already on live
2) i never get booted from pol or ffxi during xboxlive maint. as long as you don't have bingbong.net as an isp or some crappy home network you WON'T lose connect

Live connects automatically and is infinetly better than the shit that is POL. It's also updating the day before the new splintercell is out. No one that has had live will say it sucks, best gaming service I've subscribed to so far.

You guys need to seriously quit bitching about one damn maintence. Go play ANY other MMO on the planet and watch how many times they go undermaintence or just drop all together for odd reasons on a weekly basis. Doesnt even WoW have a maitence every tuesday and can be extended on a regular basis?

FFXI is a dream when it comes to the amount of time you can play over the amount of time the game is under maintence.

As for PS2 and Xbox comparison, there is none. Like one of the earlier posters said, the log in is seemless. As soon as you start your Xbox it goes straight to the game pending you have the disk in the tray. If at any time you get d/c'd from XB Live your connection to FFXI will go uninterrupted. Oh and XB overheating? I have zero problems, Ive left mine on for days now. Granted I use an intercooler and stand my upright instead of flat, but I still have no problems. Ive had more problems with overheating ps2's so far then my xb.

This is coming from a console FFXI player for 2+ years. (But now im on my XPS m1710 <3)

I'm not sure why it is such a big deal. Microsoft updates the Xbox live service like once every 6 or 7 months. It's not like they do it all the time similar to PlayOnline or other companies and it's not like they are doing a 100 hour maintenance where there is apsolutely no way you can log on to FFXI or any other videogame in the world because of this maintenance.

PoL is good, but their maintenances aren't usually scheduled for more than 8 hours, and sometimes are extended to 12 if something goes wrong. I really find it hard to believe that Microsoft would have people working for 24h straight.

8h is 1 full work shift, 12 is overtime if something fucked up.
24h is 3 full shifts back to back.

p.s. This is the 2-3rd XBLive update I can remember in the 6-7months I've had the system. This is the longest one of the 3 tho.
