Greatest Achievements in FFXI

Do you remember when you started playing FFXI Online? It was an adventure for all of us. Some of us took the high path, and some of us went through the middle, and the lower path was not entirely abandoned either. We've all done great things on FFXI Online. We've made friends, beat the shit out of seemingly "difficult" HNMs/scenarios, and we've ended up on top. With the announcement of FFXIV, are we going to start thinking these are the twilight years of our time on FFXI? I won't. There are still so many things to do. With every day we have new players looking to continue our great legacy on this unique game.

What have you done in-game to make yourself proud? What was your greatest achievement on FFXI Online? Mine was somewhat odd, but in a way, it kept millions of gil out of the hands of RMT.

This was about two years ago. I had been running Sky Gods with my HNMLS, and for some reason, some of the players didn't show up, and our activities for the day were cancelled. I stuck it out in Ru'Aun Gardens. About an hour or two later, some RMT were camping Despot, and they asked for my help with claiming him. I did so happily, and we didn't get the claim, but we went on, grabbed Byakko, Suzaku, and apparently they had enough people to do Kirin.

Let me tell you this, people say RMT are stupid, but if that is the case, how did they manage to pull off a Kirin kill? It was so awesome, this was actually considered my first kill of Kirin to be honest. My LS did him two weeks later. A number of items dropped, one of them being Kirin's Osode. They let me roll for the item, this was what was unbelievable to me. I won the roll, and I had myself a Kirin's Osode. Now, I wasn't really a player of the job that would benefit from it, so I sold it, and got myself an entire set of HQ staves and some other stuff. No, they weren't just Japanese.

How about you guys? What did you do that made you proud?

This thread is to honor the friends and times we had on FFXI Online. Not to spit on it and then tell us all how it didn't matter to you because you wanted to quit. That's bullshit. Don't do that.

Strange to think about it now, but I was really proud the first time I stepped onto a Sandy airship in early 2004.

i've explored every zone almost entirely, and that along with the plot was always my favorite part of this game. those other "goodbye" topics are a pile of shit, none of that ever mattered to me

Why wouldn't you be proud of it? You either managed to farm up 500,000 gil, or you completed the nation missions upto getting an airship pass, it's something to be happy about. I remember the first time I did too, it was really great. Another time I can remember is getting a Moldavite Earring. That made me so happy and proud to be friends with the people who helped me.

Finished the first major milestone towards getting that same Summoner a Mythic Weapon... It's been a fun ride

I think my greatest achievement was on my first character (Guyver) killed my first god, lolTurtle, with my first Endgame LS Avail. Got Z.Hands as well on that day.

But, I think best one would be when I dinged 75 on BLM on weapon camp.

First time the LS I was in killed Dynamis Lord (this is ages ago), I was nervous as hell, and cheers erupted when he went down :D

Beating Maat on RDM back in early 05 then proceeding to get Sandy rank 10 less than an hour after Maat went down, with a group of JPs who kept cheering me on, I have no idea why, so I gave myself the benefit of the doubt and told myself it was because of Maat (and not because I'd gimped myself to hell and beyond buying meds and whatnot to kill Maat)

Completed the missions with friends. But, I mean looking back what, 5 years ago? Accomplished a lot of things in this game, but thinking that probably one of my most proud moments was getting something that is completely taken for granted now. Getting Moldavite earring was pretty fun, mainly because RMT started a MPK war with me and my friends and ended with them getting banned. Back when RMT had serious characters that multiple people played.

Going wayyyyy back, probably making it (running) to Jeuno after never having set foot in Tahrongi/Meriphataud/Sauromugue on the first attempt. That, or getting to ride the Mhaura -> Selbina boat for the first time with my level 25 "escort".

Beating B2 for the first time def a highlight, (blm style, noone zerged it back then ). Man we lost alot of orbs xp doing that shit. Another couple is getting relic and beating av but that B2 fight def a highlight.

i would say one of the times, i had to solo tank an HNM with little or no support, or hold for 20 min solo (KV) but EVERYONE has those kinds of stories, so lemme get something new, yet MAD old school. because i like that theme for this thread.

everyone i knew back than, told me to steal it, and that i could never beat him melee style. but i said fuck it, and did it anyways.

Airship BC way back when. 60 cap, Mammets > Omega > Ultima. Shit was fucking intense. I actually rose to my feet and cheered when we won.

i guess i should add some. hitting 75 for the first time was awesome (on statues), my hickass neighbors were having a yardsale & i walked outside 2 minutes later (the party split, they were waiting for me, god bless em - i still remember the names [screenshot] but they most likely don't remember me) & it looked like i hadn't seen the sun for 48 hours.... because i hadn't. it was mid-june and hot as shit.

finally getting sea access was incredible, my oldschool LS buddies and i worked our asses off on the end of CoP a few nights in a row and it was like 3am on a wednesday when we finally finished it - i was working fulltime & i was miserable every morning, and it was worth it. i remember sending screenshots to my non-ffxi "IRL" pals that morning all fired up... they understood as much as they could've.

with those same bastards (none of who play now... which destroys my motivation) i believe we were the first group on fairy to beat/get diabolos. i stood outside of windy & cast/healed/recast him for 2 hours. i also made some retarded topic on the old fairy KI boards (which were a shitshow in themself - i'd like to keep this topic about the game though). anyone remember the mess of the line to the diabolos fight the day it was released? if you somehow still read this shit i know you remember it keftenk...

i'm sure i could type for 2 hours right now but i want to go to sleep, so

last but not least in the slightest - the first kirin my shell back then (and current shell - still together - never breaking once) beat, they gave me the cloth to make a noble's tunic. we had 25+ people there wanting a cut of money (it was everyone's first kirin) but the majority decided to make me a tunic. i'll never forget that.

Definitely. Back when I did it my first time, my first and only job was paladin. I leveled alchemy to 61 just so I could churn out enough hi-potions cheaply to keep myself alive, and used other party members as mules so I could restock between Omega and Ultima.
