    Bahamut V.2

Tonight was my linkshell's first Bahav2, we went in well read/prepared (at least we thought so) and came out dumbfounded. Our set up and strategy was, blmx7 rdm/drkx2 whmx2 nin/war pld/nin rdm/nin brdx2. Strategy was simple NIN/WAR main tank PLD/NIN pulls wyrms to the blms/back up tank in case NIN died. Our main concerns coming in were Jourmy/Vrtra we intended to combat them with rdm/drk chainspell stunning while blms nuked them to death. @21% we intended to time nuke Bahamut to death to skip a summon/terraflare. Well that was our general strategy going into the fight. Everything went well, well NIN/WAR died at 88%~ forcing the PLD/NIN to take over tanking while the NIN/WAR recovered, at this time we decided to continue doing damage to get a summon out of the way. We approached 80% and knew summon was coming, first summon Vrtra, our strategy was to Chainspell stun him (my job) so I proceeded to do so, in the middle of my stun I got charmed... after I got charmed it was practically over blm after blm began to get charmed and after 20-30 seconds Vrtra had smn his pets as well. At this point we were all chasing after the pld tank and shortly after wiped.

My question, how to combat charm? Secondly any advice on set up/strategy. We usually discuss and learn from our wins/looses but in this particular case we are at a lost.

We dont use CS stun on him we just nuke>stun also pop a poison pots in case he cast sleepga. 7 blms should be more than enough to take him down fast. Your setup sounds good just have whm go whm/nin be surprised how much utsusemi saves them from aoe. Feel free to pm for a more in depth way on how we do it, but we have gotten our time down to 26 min kills with no trouble at all.

I've always felt CS Stun is a waste on Vrtra. Charm is instant and he'll just Charm the stunner first chance he gets.

As far as dealing with it, you just have to kill it ASAP. Having poison pots ready to pop for each Vrtra helps immensely, because getting hit by a Sleepga/Wing will screw you over bad each time if everyone stays asleep.

Otherwise, if worse comes to worse you just kind of have to kite things. It usually should never get that bad unless there are some major mistakes, but if it comes down to Vrtra + a bunch of charmed people killing the support/tanks then the only thing left to do is kite really.

If your nin died at 88%, lol, I think you got more things to worry about than that silly charm.

Having a NIN as the main tank for Bahamut is interesting to me. Not that it can't work, I'm just used to a PLD taking on that duty. I would anticipate gigaflare being an issue, especially if BLMs happen to nuke Baha down before the tank PT is ready.

Yeah... uh... you'd better wait til 10%ish to attempt that imo. 7 BLMs wont be able to do 21% of damage in one cast. And of course you have your last Wyrm summon at 20% as well.

lol Getting Vrtra first can suck if you're not ready for it.

We do it with NIN tank main and PLD backup. Works great

Our last run we were NIN/DRK (without Stun obviously) main solo tank as I recall, with a RDM/NIN or /DRK (I don't recall what he subbed, he wasn't intended to tank) who stepped up and then co-tanked after a badly timed Terror during Utsusemi cast resulted in the NIN's death near halfway point.

or make your thf do it, not like thief can do jack shit otherwise in the bc

(I play 75 thf for it, sj war, use a blink band, and use terra staff, gigant mantle, steppe sash etc etc, get my hp up to 1600 and tank the wyrm pops for a couple secs for our blms) ;p

NIN/DRK isn't a good idea as Baha will start to resist stuns. NIN/WAR in a resist/haste build works, but PLD/NIN works a lot better from our experiance. Cures and flashes alone will keep it off the BLMs. As someone pointed out, if you have NIN's dying at 88%, you need to worry about tanking first.

Summons in manaburn setup should be assisting with stuns between nukes. Other than that make sure they keep Blink/SS up and nuke with the right element magic very fast.

Or just KC DRK burn it FTW.

Actually, shits can still happen on Vrtra especially when he charm half your ally's BLM's when your BLM's having a bad day ie fucktonnes of resist, and they start hitting other blm's interupting their spells.

Clearly demonstrated by our first lose last week (yikes) in this BC in over a year.
Ally setup similar to yours, but with 2 Aegis and 1 Gjallabard.

Next orb got full drops though. B.Staff + Mask. lol 8)

And yea, we don't CS stun Vrtra because we farm back to back orbs. RDM grav it instead and kite, while we release our volleys of nuke.

We usually do a timed nuke on Vrtra with ES + AM2, to avoid the resist issue, with a pld/nin tanking wyrms initially for blms. Blm's are under orders to manafont him down if he starts getting charm crazy. Getting Vrtra down seems to be the main difficulty in this BCNM now that folks have figured out how to handle the flares. We also do a light SC + MB to finish off the last 12-15%.

Because a NIN/DRK doesn't have any other spells available to them, obviously.

If you are going to CS Stun Vrtra one error I think is in how people pull Vrtra.

My LS typically uses 2 Pld/Nin for this BC, one as main tank, the other to pull wyrms & as backup if the main dies. A Pld/Nin can actually hold hate on Wyrms through nuke volleys if they have enough +enmity, albeit barely.

Although Vrtra can obviously spam charm I noticed an error my LS originally made was that when pulling him they would start CS Stun before he even made it to the Blm party and was in position, meanwhile the tank is still running past the Blm's.

With W. Legs you can outrun Vrtra enough to avoid charm until he is in position. The trick in my opinion is to NOT CS Stun him until Vrtra is directly positioned by the Blm's, this means you need to let your pulling tank get BEYOND the Blm's, i.e. Vrtra will be behind him. This gets you a solid 1 round of nukes before charm is likely to hit the tank, if your tank goes all out for hate your CS stunner *should not* get charmed, although your tank might.

We do typically use a CS Stunner for the ease of the fight but we just make sure we have 1 Rdm/Drk for each fight, so maybe bring 19-20 people instead of 18 depending on how many fights we are doing.

Also, 7 Blm's are perfectly capable of nuking him down from 21%, just have your Thf, which I hope you brought one of, self SC on Bahamut, Evisc > Sharkbite, 7 Blm's MB'ing Burst II with ES on will put a frigging dent in him, it might not outright kill him, but it will bring him into the single digits, and he will then summon a wyrm before doing flare. Just follow that MB up with a 1 round of Nukes & down he'll go.
