Chocobo Whistle problem

I recently reactivated my content ID. I played back in August when chocobo raising was new.

Last night I went to check and see what would happen, I figured that my chocobo would be dead or something. When I talked to the dude, I had to sit through like an hours worth of cutscenes spanning from day 19 - day 120something. Inbetween those days, I gained the option to obtain a whistle through some sort of hankerchief game. But the game wouldnt let me react and continued on with the rest of the CS's. By the time they ended, my chocobo was shipped off to the old folks home, and the NPC told me that I could still call him if I needed him.

My questions is, will I be able to attain one or do I have to raise a new egg to be able to get a whistle? I tried to trade the VCS card I got to related people and didnt find anything of interest. Has anyone else experienced something like this?

A chocobo can be called with the whistle regardless of the bond with it.

Really? I thought you had to at least get the "Regarding affection, it seems to slightly enjoy your company" message in order to call it. Learn something new everyday...

Nope, I ran my first chocobo directly into the ground and I was still able to call it with my whistle.
