The long-rumoured new instalment of Blizzard's massive StarCraft series is set to be unveiled later this month - and it's another massively-multiplayer online game in the style of World of Warcraft, CVG can reveal.

Well placed US sources have revealed to us that the StarCraft MMO will be unveiled at an upcoming Blizzard event on May 19 in South Korea - the epicentre of the sci-fi RTS series' rabid fandom.

The unveiling of the new instalment has previously been rumoured for the South Korea event, though we now know that the title is in fact an online spin-off and not a new RTS game as previously assumed.

Of course this is massive news for both Vivendi and the MMO world; Blizzard's other online offering World of Warcraft has topped 6 million subscribers and is arguably the biggest game around today.

The question is, is there room for both World of Warcraft and a StarCraft MMO? The later will have to be a very different type of online game to convince gamers to subscribe to both of Blizzard's pair.

We will of course let you know as soon as soon as Blizzard officially confirms the game on May 19.

Blizzard needs to remake Starcraft into a RTS first, before they start fucking around with a World of Starcraft. As much as I don't like WoW, i'm pretty sure i'd try a Starcraft MMO though. PSO / WoW mix seems like it'd be fun.

I know a couple of my friends had told me something like "yayaya Blizzard's putting out another big hit soon but nobody knows what it is!" It sounded like they had all been hoping it wad Diabolo III. Is this the big game they were talking about, or just a side-thing?

A Starcraft MMO will be the most successful business venture the company ever undertakes. Because, yeah, South Korea treats Starcraft as their national sport, its not a stretch to imagine the game having 10 million + subscribers worldwide quite easily.

I never got into WoW really, so maybe Blizzard will grab me with this one. I'll have to try it (this new Starcraft that is), no doubt, just like how I had to try WoW and FFXI (basically just because of the franchise).

I'm assuming that it will be sort of like Fire and Ice with WoW and the new SC, meaning Blizzard will try to make them as opposite possible but still equally enjoyable. So this might mean more group oriented play for levelling up in SC and not so focused on dungeons and PvP. Or maybe it'll just be a replica of WoW but set in a sci-fi setting (really hoping it isn't).

Could be an entirely different style really; perhaps an RTS-MMO attempt. You control a fleet and army much like the original but upgrades and such have a bigger focus. Hmmm, it'll be interesting to see at least.

But Korean have weird taste concerning mmorpg. They actually seem to prefer pure grinding, brutal mpk system and many other thing that I consider masochist. Lineage being the best example of that. I hope Blizzard won't take that path.

Lineage is an amazing MMO, I'd probably be playing it instead of FFXI if their official servers weren't total shitcock.

But, I dunno. This MMO idea for Starcraft is either gonna be amazing or really shitty. Either way, there are going to be a shit ton of RMT in this game.. But I'm gonna be a fucking Dark Templar, so whatever! ROAWR! Assuming they let us do some kind of class tree where you can start off as a zealot and work your way up.
