Well its not that much worse than Canada. The age of consent here was 14 for the longer time and perhaps still is. Although I think the most recent government may have changed it in the last year.

EDIT: ok just found the bill, it did change it to 16 last june, but it stays 14 if the partner is 19 or younger.

A 12-year old getting VD has nothing to do with the age of consent. She's under it whether the law is 13 or 21 so I don't get the relevance. Also, I've seen the TV program in question about the 14-year old mother. It doesn't glorify her pregnancy or encourage other young girls that it's OK.
