    Low Man KSNM99 Wyrm Run?

    My friendsand I have been bored and we decided to o a KSNM99 run with some poor fool's KS. I say poor fool because there's only 8 of us and we've never done the KSNM99 Wyrm. Apparently I'm one of only two of us to ever fight a Wyrm.

    Is there any special strategy to killing Wyrm or is he pretty much like a copy of Faf? Is he more like of Faf or Nid?


    The only other member of our group to have ever fought a Wyrm is our tank. He's a PLD/NIN, and I'm pretty sure he can handle tanking it since he has far more experience than me and has great gear.


    Our only real problem is DD.

    PLD/NIN
    PLD/NIN
    RDM/WHM
    BRD/WHM
    WHM/SMN
    SMN/WHM

    BLM
    RNG (I'm trying to get them to come as BLM or SMN instead but he keeps saying "It's my ob, we're gonna die, I'm gonna have fun.")

    I can probably get 1 or 2 more BLMs off my friend list if needed.


    Any advice?

    Sorry I didn't really look for the old post on KSM99, but I wanted to see what we needed added to this set up and if it's doable with just 8.

    dude... go read about the fight somewhere... search forums, search wikis/somepage/alla yada yada... something


    I know this is the noob section but if you even looked up the fight and how it works you'd understand.


    I guess I'll explain it's not exactly complicated.


    Wyrm is closest to Tiamat, if anything. Around 75% he flies into the air and does not land until around 25%. While he's in the air he spams a crazy fire move that hits the *entire* bc.

    Pretty much if it goes off once, you can make it. If it goes off twice, you're pretty screwed. If it goes off a 3rd time everybody's already dead.

    And when I say spam I mean he sits up there doing it and nothing else at all.

    I looked at the wikis and neither has any useful information on it yet. I posted here, in the newbie forum, for advice and to see if we could even win.

    Fixed that first bit. He will immediately turn and head to the middle at 70%, but if you have a CS Stun going off, you might actually be able to keep him from flying until a much lower percentage.

    He also gets a big defensive buff at one point (I see to remember it being when he lands), which pretty much halves the melee damage he takes. No idea about magical damage.

    Well, that's not quite all it does, it'll 'melee' you by breathing fireballs at you (ignores shadows/third eye/etc), but the only TP move it'll use in the air is the incredibly potent Flame Blast.

    Plow's not exaggerating about how fast it'll kill you.

    If you have more than two go off, you've probably wiped with an alliance of 18.

    With your setup above... you'd probably be able to get it to fly up, at which point he'll chew you all up and spit you out before you can say "wtf just happened?"

    Sometimes even with 6+ BLMs you're hard-pressed to have him grounded quickly after he's up in the air. I cant imagine surviving this BCNM without a small army of BLMs, considering half of them end up dying while he's in the air if stun order isn't perfect.

    Once it starts flying, if you get your BLM far enough away (down the steps should be safe resting distance) they wont get hit by his breath, provided the tank party is retaining hate. Just have them run up, Aspir, throw a big nuke and run out of reach and rest/repeat. It's pretty easy to keep the BLM alive, and the tank party should be pretty self sufficient, provided they are remotely capable players. The biggest issue with small numbers would really be the 30 minute time limit.

    I don't feel magical damage gets halved so much as he becomes more resistant (IIRC an e-seal spell will go unresisted, which leads me to believe its more resistance based, though I might be wrong on this as It's been a while since I've done this BC). Having enough people becomes more crucial in this stage more than any other as it becomes more difficult to wear down his HP,, and mages tend to run short on mp here. A good SC/MB is really helpful.

    When he lands he's simply in nidhogg 2hr mode with his wings up. Just switch to ele skill gear and you should be fine.

    3 modes - first mode is easy, normal faffy, second is flight (67-33% HP), and last mode is like the first but you'll notice he has "wings up" (same as nidhogg right after his 2hr animation). Final mode has much higher resists, hits harder, spams TP more etc.

    As others have mentioned, the flight mode can wreck you pretty quickly - the AoEs are really long range and hurt a lot. Also Flame Blast has added effect MND down, which makes your stoneskin pretty crappy. BLM timed nukes, delaying flight (by starting it off off-center and stunning), 2hr stuns, Skillchain ganks, etc. are all good way to make this 2nd phase as short as possible.

    Also as a general note, it's ok to just try force landing it ASAP. When it lands it will probably move around a bit, but you don't ahve to worry about Flails since touchdown resets it's TP. You have a good 10ish seconds to re-position before flails become a danger.

    Took off/landed at exactly 66/33 for us last time we did a steak of 10-15 runs in a single day

    I'm kinda wondering if they've altered the fight somewhat, sometime recently.
