I have no idea if this is a hoax or not. Most of the references I looked over suggested that this was indeed a hoax, but living in TX for 19 years, I've seen some of the weirdest shit involving drugs, such as "Cheese" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheese_(recreational_drug) ), so I wouldn't know where to stand on this new "Butthash" drug that supposedly surfaced.

Quick run down of "Jenkem":

1) Find a bottle.
2) Proceed to shit and piss into the bottle.
3) Place a balloon on top of the bottle, then leave the bottle in the sun for XX amount of time.
4) Take the balloon off of the bottle, inhale the newly formed drug named "Jenkems"
5) ???
6) "Euphoric High"
7) "All subjects who used the Jenkem disliked the taste of sewage in their mouth and the fact that the taste continued for several days." - What the fuck would you expect with something like this?

Well, what do you think is a hoax? The part where African streetkids figured out how to get high off something, or the part where someone in America tried it 12 years later? The term hoax would indicate that someone is trying to deceive people. This looks more like one police officer in Florida jumping to conclusions and the media piling on the bandwagon to try to find something to be alarmist about. In other words, a Moral_Panic.

And, believe it or not, there's actually people arguing against it even while quoting the wiktionary definition "The practice of sorting and collecting waste materials for new use". Apparently they don't realize that urine and feces are waste materials, and that they are being collected and put to new use.

That news article speaks of people in Africa, and I guess I can kind of understand that kids there are living a shitty life (no pun intended) with such a poor economy, AIDs, etc. It's no excuse, however, to sink this low to get high, but what boggles my mind is teenagers in the USA using this type of shit.

I imagine by now they're probably pulling routine Jenkem busts, sting operations, and checking for suspicious looking jars that may be set out to ferment.

Anyone know the police code for Jenkem possession, or the mandatory minimum sentence according to recent laws created to combat the rapid spread of the new drug? I imagine before long it'll be as well known as 187 or 420.

I'm guessing it's the product of fermentation that gives the high. Just like drinking grape juice won't do much to you unless it's been sealed in something with some yeast for a while.
