    Re: Writers Strike

On one hand, people still write for television shows?

On the other hand, stand up against the man and show them they can't take advantage of the people.

    Re: Writers Strike

Thing is, I've been hearing about this goddamn "impending Writer's Strike" since like February, and there's been no action taken. I'm broke and I need a new job, and this isn't helping. Also, you'll notice the networks basically haven't canceled any shows this season - only one I can think of is "Viva Laughlin" - because they know they won't have new material to replace it with. I wonder if "The Sarah Connor Chronicles" - which is a mid-season replacement coming in January or February will be affected.

Kind of a bump to this topic, couldn't figure out where else to post this since it involves multiple shows, but they have a lot of shows affected by this strike at:

I'm actually happy you posted the wiki because noone realizes how many big shows are actually affected.

I saw on the news this quote from wiki, but in more detail:

The last such strike was the 1988 Writers Guild of America strike; it lasted 22 weeks, costing the American entertainment industry an estimated 500 million dollars.
The news didn't say the total, instead I think they said how much it cost the industry per day per day, except in todays economy, which was an outstanding number.

    Re: Writers Strike

This is a minor inconvenience, I only watch a few shows that could be affected and it's not really that big of a deal if I have to wait to see some episodes.

Gives me more time to play Mario Galaxy and Assassin's Creed when they come out.

    Re: Writers Strike

Their reason for striking is justified, but I'm upset by some of the shows that'll have short/no seasons.

John Stewart said it best on his last episode, "the writers want to actually be paid for DVD and online content, and the companies are like, 'uh, we just don't know if theres money there!', so even though our show will be going into reruns, check out dailyshow.com, where every single show I've ever done is available online, for free, except for the advertisements, which cost money, so support our advertisers."

    Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuccccccccccccccccccc*********.... >.>

The only show I make an effort to watch on TV... /sigh

Write because you love it, damn it! That's what makes shows good... Well, unless you can't feed your families and keep a roof over your heads... well, then, yeah, ask for more money... but, then again, these shows should be paying their writers more if the shows are extremely successful...

I was really looking forward to Origins, too.

    Re: Writers Strike

smallville is the only show I watch that is affected, but they have 15 episodes done so it may be resolved by then. Maybe they get better writing out of them if they give them their demands.

No worries there.. you'll get to watch the BBC version instead, which is pretty damn good. Then again.. that depends if you can get into British humor.

    Re: Writers Strike

I've always liked the British version of the Office more, but it is much, much shorter.

Don't History shows require writers too? There's a lot of talking going on in those things.
