    60 levels of lame

Anyone else ever frustrated that the only weaponskills worth a damn (for most jobs anyways) don't come around until 55 or 60? Everytime I start to level a new job it bothers me that I'm essentially grinding out 50 or 60 levels until I can start tearing shit up... just a minor rant I guess. It would be nice if the earlier weaponskills got buffed a bit to make things more exciting but I guess that it also makes getting those later weaponskills all the sweeter.

Anyways, I've been up for 27 hours so don't judge my incoherent bullshit too badly, I'm only slightly retarded... >.>

    War: Sturmwind + Raging Axe
    Rng: crap.
    Nin: crap.
    Sam: Enpi, Jinpu.
    Drk: Major Crap.
    Pld: Crap.
    Mnk: Raging fucking Fists!
    Drg: Pentathrust
    Thf: Viperbite.

Id say the only melees that get hosed really on WS damage early on are Drk and Rng. Pld/Nin WSs are kinda gimp but im not really counting those two as pure DD jobs till later lvls.

Don't forget BLU, which doesn't have any good WS until Vorpal Blade, and you could say we get physical spells which act like weaponskills but there's a period of 10-15 levels before Frenetic Rip where your spell options are pretty lackluster, and the best damage/MP ones feed the mob a ton of TP.

Until we sub DRK or BLU. >_>

I unlocked the latent on my Sapara of Trials using Vorpal Blade to make a skillchain with someone, I was thinking "Wow this is a good WS, can't wait to see what Savage Blade is like!" 300 WS points, an annoying trip through Altepa, and one easy NM fight later and I was sorely disappointed. /sigh.

Combo can be great, I remember hitting a 95 one of my mithra mule while leveling to 10. Backhand Blow is pretty snazzy too, even if some people prefer Combo. Also it's the best hand to hand THF WS.... (though SA True Strike is cool)

Raging Axe was great dmg on DRK when I leveled it up. Then again I despised Scythe and Great Sword before Guillotine and Spinning Slash.

    Re: 60 levels of lame

For NIN, both Retsu and Chi are decent until you get jin at 60.
PLD doesn't have much DD potential until you get pretty high so idk why it was on the list.

BLU has like a ton of spells that do great dmg.

Other people already pointed out the WSs on various jobs that are solid. Sturmwind freaken owned face on WAR and DRK.

The WSs may be slim but shit, the amount of good WSs per weapon/job are pretty slim period.

    Re: 60 levels of lame

Speaking only on jobs I have some experience w/:

MNK: Combo kind of sucks. I mean it's not like Wasp Sting suck, but it's not really all that great even when you land all the hits and have a BRD or COR either. You'll probably pull hate from the Boost rather than the damage. Backhand Blow is good if you land both hits and they crit. It's the Blade: Jin of H2H WS. Can be phenomenal, but is usually mediocre. Raging Fists is good when you get it, but once you get Howling Fist I'd never use it again. lolDragonKick. I don't have Asuran yet, so I won't comment, but do look forward to using it.

NIN: Retsu because Ichi tanking with retarded mages sucks less when the mob is paralyzed half its attacks. Blade: Chi might not be bad sometimes, but it usually sucks. Jin can be decent but even w/ capped merits and a BRD it's usually a disappointment next to WAR or MNK WS. (Let alone any SATA ones.)

I personally wouldn't mind if jobs had not crapstastic WS earlier, but would like it if the new WSes SE is talking about adding give the ones that do random damage something consistent (w/ good gear) that's decent.

    Re: 60 levels of lame

idk what you are doing but Jin is pretty pwn. I easily hit 500+ as 64NIN and I know plenty of NINs who get high numbers in merit parties. 3 Hit WS for 700-1k is pretty nice and Asuran Fists doesn't usually give eye popping numbers like Rampage does.

I haven't used Howling since they updated it, I still use Raging Fists sometimes though to make a SC. (KRT Ghost habits kick in) Combo is pretty good for a 10 skill WS.

    Re: 60 levels of lame

Maybe it's just because I've eaten meat and worn tons of accuracy gear with sword merits throughout my PLD leveling, but Fast Blade is a pretty good damage WS as well. Seraph Blade can also be good on mobs that have high physical defense or evasion (like beetles).

Barring those two, I tend to spam Flat Blade to try and land stun proc for hate.

...Though I'm currently playing with Spirits Within (just hit level 53) and it's consistent damage is trumping everything else on shit like crabs.

Fortunately people warned me that Savage Blade sucked before I got it so I knew not to expect Vorpal Blade numbers. But come on, you leap into the air and ram your sword into a monster's head on the way down, that should cause more damage than it does. >_<
