Would this also apply to men who spend all night gaming instead of working?
Gee awesome, yet one more thing to worry about.
Well, I'm glad that my last night at my nightshift job is Saturday, and I have no intention of ever getting another one again, anyway.

THIS JUST IN, BREATHING MAY CAUSE CANCER
for reals I don't even care anymore =( I mean there's certain obvious ones but all of these recent "may" ones are about as likely as me winning the lottery.
I hope I get the latter.

Does the body not adapt to a new rhythm? Does the body know when it's dark outside? If you work the graveyard shift for any extended period of time, would your body not become used to it, and treat daytime as night? Maybe it's because I don't know about this circadian rhythm, but it seems like bullshit. However, scientists suspect that overnight work is dangerous because it disrupts the circadian rhythm, the body's biological clock. The hormone melatonin, which can suppress tumor development, is normally produced at night.
Besides, why does it matter whether you sleep or not? The hormone is produced at night, and whether you're asleep or at work, night is night. So it just produces all that melatonin while you work, rather than while you sleep.Originally Posted by Ivaden

Actually that's not true. If you read the whole thing, you'd realize they said Melatonin is produced when there is a lack of light, not while you are asleep. The problem is that night-shift works are essentially exposed to light much more than day shift, since during the day they sleep while it is light, and during the night they are at work under lights (most of the time). Unless you make your room incredibly dark (Dark, thick, sheets over all windows, etc), you won't be producing Melatonin much at all.
Exactly, fuck it... everything causes cancer nowadays.Originally Posted by Yangsing
