The PlayOnline Membership Information section can now be accessed from the web! (12/18/2007)

Starting today, the PlayOnline "Membership Information" section under Service & Support on the PlayOnline Viewer can be accessed from the web.

The site is currently limited to viewing specific account data, but in the future, more features will be added and users will be able to purchase Content IDs or change payment methods.

I don't really see the reason for this other than negative sides, if you really need to update your account information, shouldnt you have atleast PlayOnline installed?

On this website, you can use the following features from the "Membership" section of the PlayOnline Viewer:
- Member information
- Confirm Service History
- Confirm Membership Status
- Review Service Fees

In otherwords: no. This is a massive fail if meant to be an appeasment for all the account stealings.
But look on the bright side,this is a step towards getting rid of playonline all together. Play online was a good idea if they'd made more for it (read: casual games that didn't require an asstastic fee) but they never did. All it really serves is lag for signing into FFXI.

just like friend list plus, it's a fantastic way to verify or otherwise attempt to identify valid uname/pass combos even if there's no exploit associated. if there is, well then that just makes life easier for the bad guys.

If so then, I question all of their ways; sure it's nice to be able to change and access your personal info from anywhere regardless if the game is installed or not, but that just makes it all the more vunerable. Aside from the possibility to 'hack in' and get access to the login database (yeah it's hard, but it is possible) from one easy place, it makes it easier for what's going on right now with all the keylogger stuff.

It's a nice addition, but risky at the same time, if they added some sort of special verification on the website and POL to login to change billing/etc info, that would be a really good thing.

Are they retarded? Unless they set up a system to prevent RMT from simply using it as a free ticket to change your info (They don't even have to boot you off of POL now! HUZZAH!) without your knowledge and giving no better options than "Spend thousands of dollars on legal fees and get law enforcement involved", then it's doomed to be a utter waste of their resources.
