Campaign Protocol - be nice to the other people

When you are camping the Teleport NPC and the Campaign map - before you port out be nice and tell the area you tele to in /say! Seems everyones Campaign Map refresh works on a different timer. So if you spot out something first be nice and tell the ppl of your homenation so they dont arrive 3 minutes late and get to eat 100 exp.

If more ppl would do that you could benefit, too! 8)

I've noticed some people seem to refresh quickly, so I do a couple of /sea all <theirname>'s after they disappear, then check and see who went to the least crowded zone.

Works pretty decently, but yeah I generally /s Gusta S or whatnot before warping out.

I wish people would do this as well. Often times I'll join up with a random party just because my /cmap seems slower than other peoples'.

From talking with my friends while doing a big campaign zerg rush the other night it's like this.

7:04 My map refreshes, two fights up on it, one is over, three just started
7:06 Friends map refreshes, he doesn't see the two I saw, but all three that just started show
7:07 Other friends map refreshes, he sees that one of the the three is over, two started, 4 up
7:09 My map refreshes again, I see the last two that just started, one of the first three lingering, and a fresh one

Getting two or three people works best, it isn't that your map is slow, they all seem to be on different timers, possibly started when you log in.

Someone dualboxing and spamming /cmap with timestamp could display this pretty well.

Re: Campaign Protocol - be nice to the other people

When I camped campaign with JP players, we would say in /say to eachother before we depart, I once tele'd into a campaign unintentionally, so I send tell to 1 of the person in town, and he brought an army with him. It is certainly a lot nicer if people would tell others if they know a campaign is on, what do they gain by going there alone to begin with?

Re: Campaign Protocol - be nice to the other people

If they're good enough, quite a lot since there's no longer a cap on EXP or AN with tags, just a per-minute cap. So less people fighting = longer fight = more EXP and AN. I am not saying I condone this, just that's probably the reason they're doing it if it's deliberate. Simple fix there is for SE to re-instate the cap on the tags but leave the per-minute cap as well, so that past a certain point it's a loss to continue dragging out a fight. (Imagine if they had done something like that to kings instead of rage timers; the longer you hold, the worse the drop rate of ridill gets :o)

    EDIT: Disabled smilies, that is SO the wrong graphic for that one >.<;

Also please don't leave anyone behind. I've seen a few people get left KO'd without a raise while on DRK and THF.

I was worried about this too at first when Campaign first started, but pretty much all the ones I've been to (and I've been to my fair share, have over 35k AN) people actually were running around afterwards and doing shouts to send a tell if they needed raise. I was amazed. :D

The same amount of people will come anyway - just later... maybe 2 minutes - missing out 200 exp or so from their tag caps - that could be YOU, too.

There is more to be gained by getting everyone there early.

Re: Campaign Protocol - be nice to the other people

Although it feels like an eternity when you're standing there, I timed it yesterday and the cmap actually refreshes every 2 minutes exactly. I clocked it based on when the map shows every icon with a "?" for a second before turning to the appropriate icons. It might also refresh each time you zone, but I'm not sure on that. However, it seems that whatever your /cmap draws information from also refreshes on its own timer. For instance, campaign starts in Batallia at 8:00:00. If your map refreshes at 8:01:00 you may not actually show Batallia as up because the global campaign map hasn't refreshed. Then at 8:01:30 the global campaign map refreshes, and the next time your map refreshes at 8:02:00 (or later if you're not spamming /cmap) it'll show as up. Would be nice to know if there are regular intervals that the global map changes so we can time our own maps refreshing to right after it does, although it might be based on a zone-by-zone basis rather than the whole thing updating at once.

I do that a lot if there's a few people camping the C.A. waiting for a new battle to start. Seemed like common sense to tell people about the zone that just spawned one, but *shrug*.

On the other hand, being one of 4 people at the fort when a wussy group comes up is fun, and lucrative.

Course, it's slow right now, barely 10 people showing per fight.

Re: Campaign Protocol - be nice to the other people

I've done a lot of campaigning, and it definitely gets better at night when the JP crowd comes out. At least on Sylph, there doesn't seem to be a lot of NA interest in campaign at the moment, meaning you get stuck soloing Vatgit in Eldieme

I usually go solo as WAR/SAM, so I have no shadows and no means to cure or raise myself. Basically, I'm completely dependent on the help of strangers.

When I have hate and am getting beat on, I /say <hp>. I almost always get cured quickly, and raised quickly if necessary. I'm thankful to the BLMs who Cure III me, and if they can squeeze some extra notes out of it then everyone wins.

If somebody dies where the group doesn't see it (like on the other side of the tower, etc), a /say [name] [pos] usually gets them raised in short order. Maybe after the battle, but better than people warping away.

If you're fighting Quadavs, crowd around the front. You'll do better damage, and you won't turn it to 0 somebody else's damage.

If NPCs are up and the mobs aren't ridiculously powerful (ie, that evasion 999 crap going on sometimes), intercept the mobs away from the tower. Sleep them if you can. If you can't sleep, provoke sleeping mobs to spare the BLM/BRD/BLU from a quick death when they wake. Then just focus on a manageable number of mobs at once. This is a safer fight, it's more controlled, and it lasts longer if you can keep the mobs out of NPC aggro range.

Follow the crowd and let them know where you're going. Even if you're not in a party or the same party or same alliance, even if you all warp back to different cities, for as long as you're fighting campaigns, the crowd is your team.

Seigan+Third Eye rocks, but I do this as War/Drg and against anything but higher tier beastmen I can straight bloodtank them.

Shit, I ate a 725 EES from lolthree-eyed, and went on to tank and kill like 6 of his lolrangers.

I also worry about being left behind dead when everyone goes warping off, which is one of the reason I go /WHM. DRK/WHM has done me well since the beginning in Besieged and it's doing just as good in Campaign. <3 reraise! When I die I reraise with enough MP to cast reraise again, so unless I get very unlucky I can usually see keeping myself up and not left behind.

I also try not to die in a bad place (behind towers, out of sight). Other than when you're on-shotted, it's pretty easy to tell when things are going south, so I just unlock and run around to the front.

Re: Campaign Protocol - be nice to the other people

That's another thing I don't get, people not raising others after Campaign, I am a BLM, but I go around healing and raising people if I think that would help everyone out more(I do prefer nuking, but if it means 1 nuke and I would get beaten to death, I would much rather heal and help out), and of course, raising people after Campaign is standard procedure for me: I would hate that if I die on MNK or THF in campaign, that people would just simply leave me behind, so I would do what I want to get from others, and hopefully they would give back the same effort.

    I did have a NIN homepointed on me when I was trying to get MP back after campaign... ;_;
Another time, I saw someone dead right near the C.A.(there was no way anyone could miss him), yet everyone just warped away soon as campaign ended, me and another guy even ask for raise for the poor dead person, and people still choose to ignore!

So my question is: Why can't people spare that few seconds to raise a few deads after campaign? Because they might "oh crap, missed a 2nd campaign!"?

I might just note down any selfish mages I see, that next time if they are on a non-RR job and needing raise, I would just run circle over them then run off, just so they know that I saw them dead, but decided not to raise, just like they did to others. =D
