noob melee question

Yesterday, I had a PT @ Nyzul Isle Greater Colibiri camp, and I was kind of dismayed with my results. No matter what I did, I could not pull ahead of 81% Accuracy, and for the life of me, could not figure out why:

Relevant merits: 8/8 Sword Skill. Was spamming Meat Mithkabobs for food. Songs were Minuet IV/Madrigal. I was Flash'ing all the birds, so occasionally I would get it reflected back at me, but honestly, not THAT often to cause a huge accuracy loss. WS gear is in brackets, if changed, and a little lacking.

Parser stayed at a pretty even 80% Accuracy, so after about 45-50 minutes, I switched out Ares's Cuirass to Homam Corazza, and Swift Belt > Potent Belt, to see how much it would raise my Accuracy, and over the course of about 20-25 minutes with those 2 pieces switched in for a total of +20 Accuracy over what I had before, the parser showed my Accuracy rising to only 81.5%, which has me pretty baffled, and I actually dropped 2-3% in the parse.

What really got me was we had a BLU in the PT, TPing in a total of +14 Acc + Accuracy Bonus JT, and full sword merits. Rest of his gear was STR+ for the most part, and he ate no food, yet his accuracy throughout the entire PT stayed at a constant 83%. Of course, I had at least 2.5x the # of attacks he did, but still, I don't see how it's possible to have nearly identical acc to mine, with much less +Acc gear.

Now even if the Flashes I ate took off 3-5% accuracy at most I would guess, where did the rest of my accuracy go? I've parsed 93-94% accuracy here always on PLD (or BLU) before, using Haubergeon+Swift on PLD, with similar setups, and I can understand using Ares over an Acc piece will drop my acc, but not THAT much, and replacing it with Homam Body should have made more than a 1.5% increase in my accuracy over the course of 20 minutes. It was a little humbling to see a BLU with "not the best gear", beat me in Acc.

Ares' Cuirass looks to be your problem. Don't forget Haubergeon adds DEX and accuracy, while Ares' adds neither.

And I guess a lack of Homam hands doesn't help either.

Jehryn: Yeah, I figured the same, and I wasn't hurting for MP, so I took it off... But a 1.5% increase in accuracy from +20 Acc? Maybe I needed to leave it on more than 20-25 minutes to get it to show more in the parse? I was pretty turned off by the 2-3% I lost in the parse (WAR, MNK, BLU, PLD, in the end I barely beat the BLU in damage :/) And yeah, i'm still missing Homam hands, but I don't think the +4 Acc would make/break me, especially since +20 didn't seem to be enough, soon tho! Points Thinking of replacing gigas bracelets on WS with N.Hands, since my DEX is paltry, and no Ares's legs yet.

Did you start a new parse when you swapped gear? Pretty sure the accuracy rate is taken from your total hits and misses, so if you had been parsing 81% for an hour, 20 minutes with more acc will only change that a little bit.

Also, since you got on COR and parsed 90%, wouldn't you have the sense to realize that maybe those flashes hurt more than you think? Unless you gave accuracy songs for lolibri..

BRD was singing Madrigal, yes, a few times March, but mostly Madrigal.

As for Flash, i'd say I ate maybe 1 flash every 15 or 20 fights, tops? It couldn't have been THAT bad.

And no, I didn't start a new parse, I figured 20 minutes in better acc gear would show, since the PT up to that point was 40-45 minutes.

parser shows your average accuracy over the whole time you have been parsing so after a while it takes a lot to move it up or down, to see an immediate change from certain gear swaps you would need to start a new parse.

ares body is not a tp piece for any job, keep the haub on. the rest looks fine but i never merit on pld anyway

Well, I was keeping Ares's on at first cuz we started the party w/o all melee around, people were taking alot of damage and I was missing Refresh a lot ^^ I was a bit depressed to not get 90% Accuracy with it on, on PLD :/ I could live with 90%, but not 80%, prolly closer to 82-84% not counting flashes.

WOW! Nice gear duder. I'm suprised you didn't tag 90% with 304 Sword Skill. And a BRD.

Not to toot my own horn, but I wear 14-20 Acc on 297 Scythe and Parse 90% average. Still mob dependant though. And when I do notice the 2/10 miss rate, I swallow my pride and throw on the Hauby. Sometimes ya just NEED the extra 10 accurracy lol.

Badass body piece though man, congratulations.

With the 2handed update (and even with the partial nerf not so long ago), you still can't compare 1handed vs 2handed accuracy. Of course you'll parse higher with less Acc+ gear, your DEX helps you a lot more than his.
