Tarutaru Job advice for FFXI Newbie (^.^)

    ::EDIT::

I figured that instead of making a new thread I would just keep using this old one from a little while ago. So I had a new question xD:

How good are Dancers really? I find them interesting and all, but I'm not really sure how good they are at DD or anything like that. But they sure look neat and somewhat fun to use. So how well do they really work out?

And I am a lvl 15 WHM right now for the record. I'm still waiting to hit lvl 30 and get my Advancement. So if I do make a DNC, would I be better of making a Monk Sub untill I finally hit lvl 30 and then switch my Job to DNC/MNK sub? Or DNC/WAR sub?

I know its a lot of questions, but any help is appreciated. xD

    Thanks!! <3,

    Katse

If you are not a complete dick and if you can ask nice, (or, worst case scenario have to /shout a couple hours) you can get High level help to get the 6 basic ones. Otherwise, the level20 solo battles are not too hard, unless you are Elvaan, where MP might be an issue

As for DRG having /SAM, /WAR as subjobs will be desirable if you plan on getting invited to parties. SMN/WHM forever and ever can't go wrong.

Any race can be any job, just accept that you will probably not do as much damage as a Galka, Hume, or Elvaan DRG on the big weapon skill numbers (not talking differences of 1000s, maybe 200 at most) . Taru melee are much cuter than any others, though.

As to avatars, they aren't really difficult fights these days, but for a new player they can be overwhelming. There are LV20 fights to get them early (though I like that I got them the old fashioned LV60 fight way so I can use the LV20 quests to teleport around), but you will still have to do the LV60 fights to get Fenrir. If you make a few good friends with a couple 75s who aren't completely stupid at soloing/duoing things, you can probably get them that way.

Thank you very much for the info. ^_^ Looks like I will be making a SMN/WHM after all. xP Now if I can only make some friends on FFXI that dont only want you to talk to them if you need help with something, Lol.

EDIT- Even though I think a DRG/WHM would be kind o ffun to have and SUPA CEEUUUUTTTEEEE! <3 Hehehe xD

There is always an alternative in fighting the avatar in level20 cap BC.

    For example

I was thinking of making a NIN/THF later on probably. At this point though I'm not to concerned. Once I learn more about the combos of Jobs and all the skills anf stuff; then I will start getting more hardcore into making several Different jobs. Till then SMN/WHM will keep me happy xD.

seriously trying to be helpful here, I hope you have a lot of patience. Those are imo the 2 of the harder jobs to lvl/get invites, personally I wouldn't recommend for someone just picking up the game.

btw race shouldn't determine what job you play, play what you like. (you can't go wrong with taru anyway, good choice.)

Eeeep!! That makes me kind of nervouse. ^^; I guess its gonna be a rough road for me then. xP I did the same thing on another MMO I have been playing for over a year now. Made one of the hardest classes to build up. I mangaed to do it, but it was pretty damn difficult. xP

Picking taru was a good choice, especially for smn, as you will have the most mp out of any class, which is one thing that makes a great smn. smn isn't horrible for invites, at low levels anyway people take what they can get, I hit a roadblock around mid 60's on invites up until almost 75, at which point I was soloing various things. You can make a drg/whm but realize you won't get a party with it. You need to have at least /war and alot of people want /sam as well. Drg/whm is awesome for doing stuff solo but you won't get far in the party scene.

Exactly what Furt said, drg/whm good for solo xp (see my friend meta do it when he can't get a invite). And play what you want, your gonna be the one looking at the character everytime you log in and log out, have fun! tarutaru > other races imo :D

Re: Tarutaru Job advice for FFXI Newbie (^.^)

SMN is the least new player friendly job in the game imo. There's a new player I've helped a lot (he's played over a year at this point) who took SMN as his first job. It's just a lot, a lot, to do and learn to be setup. Essentially what you're looking at is a huge amount of fame building to be able to activate the avatar quests. Building your fame via repeating a lot of quests for Bast, Windurst, San d'Oria, and the Tenshodo. After that you'll need to finish their quests to obtain them. At some point thereafter you need to defeat all of them over again in their Prime form, just to be able to try to obtain Fenrir. You don't have to have fenrir as a SMN lower lvl, but lower mid level he's very useful. Diabolos requires many CoP missions to be completed which you likely won't have, and even then you need some rather high level help. The good news is Diabolos, although neat looking, is really not useful in exp situations so it's not make or break.

I helped someone do this and he got so sick of trading bat wings and boyahada moss he about wanted to quit (understandably so), but eventually he finished it all. It can be done, just know it takes a lot of tedious work, or if you meet some nice people, some help. I'm not sure why SE chose to do it this way but that's how it is gl.

My Two cents as a person who also feels that race isnt make or break for job selection. Consider for some time following the WHM path of things, its a cheap job to level, easy to play, requires focus to play well, and isnt gear dependant. Also WHM at 36+ <well ..> Can really generate you an incredible source of income, teletaxi being a real way to make a buck in this oddball world.

Once youve established yourself as a decent guy with the friends you make, and have made a lil' Scratch to support your habit, see how you feel. The SMN solo avatar battles are not impossible, are LOTS of fun <and frustration> and a very real sense of reward when you win em.

Also, for my part i think Taru are PERFECTLY suited to DRK and are a terrifying sight as SAM. You MAY not deal as much hurt as a Elvaan but you'll still deal enough to die repeatedly, if thats your thing.

Dear god...I had no idea being a SMN was that much work. Why the hell would they make it such an ordeal to get all those Avatars? @_@ I would say that I could get assistance from people, but most of the people I have come to get aquainted with or run into seem to be to buisy to actually talk to anyone they meet. And quite frankly I dont think it would be very reliable help to have people assist me that could easily get bored with the situation and drop it like a hot potato....maybe I should make a DRG like I originally planned....

People are right when they say that SMN isn't the most invite-friendly job. However, don't let it discourage you. Keep trying, and if you do find that you're not enjoying the job, it's never too late to level an alternative job. My oldest and best friend in this game was a SMN right from the start, and although he leveled slower than me, he loves the job. He also beat the avatars as a lvl20 SMN, and didn't get neither Fenrir nor Diabolos until he was over level 50. He got a few remarks about it, which discouraged him somewhat, but it didn't stop him from hitting 75.

I'm a huge fan of the "play the job you want to play" concept. Some jobs suck for invites as they level up, but then get extremely powerful at most things endgame, while others are desired in exp parties, but are easily replaced with a random other similar job at 75. And the job you like now, may not be the job you'll like later. I wanted to be a DRG when I started playing, because they had such cute, little wyverns, but before I'd even hit 25, I was completely sold on tanking. PLD was my first 75, and my DRG is level 8.

SMN and DRG are both Hard invites, and i can say that it might actually cut into your enjoyment of the game if you go one of them; especially as a new player you will probably get frustrated and just say "fuck this i've been seeking 3 hours!" expect it to happen quite a few times as DRG/WHM or SMN/WHM.

SMN/WHM is fun once you get in an end-game LS though

I have made the decision after doing much studying and research that I will make a SMN doing the lvl 20 Trial Cap quests. Takes way less Reputation building. From what I have read it can be very hard, but also very rewarding when you finally do get that first Avatar xP. I am confused though when you all say "End-Game Link Shell" Does this game even actually end? I mean, it is an MMO so its not like they are going to shut down the game at some point. And they keep releasing new patches and expansions. So how does the game actually have an end? To my knowledge no MMORPG's ever end. They just keep expanding. @_@
