Yep, another Iphone thread. I do realize there is a comprehensive apps thread, but it has kind of died out and this thread went stale awhile ago too, however it was mentioned that an apps/games list thread would be appreciated. I recently broke down and got an Iphone after my old craphone broke and have been scouring Itunes for fun games (mostly free, but I'll pay for a few) to play on it. While I could look at Itunes user's comments (omg dis game ruelz!)/submit myself to watching youtube clip/reviews of each game; I feel it would be more fun, and useful to more people, if there was a thread where we all give our recommendations and have it all centralized in one post. Sounds cool, right? So let's do it.

I've been doing as much searching as I can handle (is BG giving anyone else errors?) and could make a list of all the apps people have suggested over the last year or so, or we can start fresh. I'd rather start fresh and build up from the bottom. While the list will start small I hope we can build it up quickly with some great games (and apps if you wish).

Just make a post listing the game, why you recommend it, the price (free is a price), and perhaps the style (Action/Adventure, RPG, Strategy, etc.). I'll do my best to keep the post updated and sort it out categorically.

To note, this is not a review thread so please avoid criticizing other gamer's choices. Just give a game and why you'd recommend it.

I'll change labels, styles, anything if people want to offer suggestions.

Games for jailbreak-only phones, or games the cost money, but you can get for free somehow and put on the Iphone/touch that's jailbroken I'll add in as well if you want to offer a link for it.

Some may seem redundant as they're massively popular and can be found on the front page of Itunes, but I don't think it hurts to add them.


Iphone games

Action/General:

• Above, 1.99 - Climb ledges by pressing on the screen and releasing, kind of a reversed Cliffed.
  
  
• Angry Birds, 0.99 - Fling birds at little green things, a lot of fun.
  
  
• Bejeweled 2, 2.99 - Most people should know what Bejeweled is, if you don't then you probably should.
  
  
• Bird Strike, 1.19 - Control a cute, blue bird as it floats up and crashes downward collecting things along the way.
  
  
• Canabalt, 2.99 - Run across rooftops escaping impending doom, see how far you can make it.
  
  
• Cliffed, 1.99 - Lost a few hours to this one, run back and forth finding drops to see how low you can go. Earn different characters to suit your needs.
  
  
• Doodle Jump, 0.99 - Control a bouncing doodle, extremely addictive apparently.
  
  
• Froggy Jump, Free - Doodle jump, but for free and with a frog.
  
  
• Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, 9.99 - A port of the game from the DS.
  
  
• Knight's Onrush, 0.99 - Defend your castle by slamming, tossing, or sacrificing enemies to dragons/fire pits.
  
  
• Pac-Man Championship, 2.99 (Lite) - Pac-Man as you knew it with a few tweaks, very similiar to XBLA version, but there is talk of locked features that cost more.
  
  
• Marine Sharpshooter, 2.99 - One of the better, popular sniper games for the Iphone. I think there are some free ones, but this one's not bad.
  
  
• Space Invaders Evolved, 4.99 - Space Invaders evolved.
  
  
• Super KO Boxing 2, 0.99 - Think Mike Tyson's Punchout redux.
  
  
• Tilt to Live, 1.99 - Tilt phone to control your arrow, avoid red dots, gain power-ups.
  
  
• Tower Bloxx New York, 0.99 Deluxe (Free) - Stack blocks to make your tower without toppling it.

FPS:

• Heavy Gunner, 2.99 - A cheaper FPS shooter with a lot of levels and upgrades.
  
  
• N.O.V.A., 4.99 - Sci-Fi FPS with great graphics.

Simulation:

• Airport Mania, 0.99 (Lite) - An airport traffic simulator with cute little airplanes and an airport. Starts off easy, but can get pretty busy later on; overall pretty fun.
  
  
• Traffic Rush, Free (Temporarily) - A simple game about controlling traffic at an intersection. Speed cars up or stop them to avoid accidents.

RPG:

• Chaos Rings, 12.99 - Seems to be a throw back to Square's RPGs on the PSone.
  
  
• Fantasy Warrior Legends, Free - A touch-to-kill, simple interface RPG. Poke monsters to attack, use some abilities to speed things up. Fun so far with a neat little story to go along. Hey, it's free.
  
  
• Final Fantasy, 6.99 - Final Fantasy I, I have the .ipa (version 1) for this that I could upload if someone wants it, let me know.
  
  
• Final Fantasy II, 6.99 = Final Fantasy 2, also have .ipa (version 1).
  
  
• Zenonia, 2.99 - One of the most popular RPGs for the Iphone. Fun battling system, interesting leveling system, and looks nice (hurray 16-bit).

Strategy:

• Crystal Defenders, 5.99 - Sqenix's tower defender with all the units you know and love.
  
  
• Defender Chronicles, 2.99 (Lite) - Tower defense style game with good graphics, fun game play mechanics and a progressive leveling system to add accomplishment to victory. Difficult to boot.
  
  
• Galcon, 2.99 - Risk in space.
  
  
• geoDefense, 1.99 - Highly rated tower defense, pretty colors.
  
  
• Fieldrunners, 2.99 - Another popular tower defense game with a few more features than normal.
  
  
• Mikado Defenders, 2.99 - a feudal Japan tower defense game with a unique art style.
  
  
• Plants vs. Zombies, 2.99 - Who hasn't heard of this by now? Plant plants that shoot zombies.

Fighting:

• Street Fighter 4, 9.99 - Street Fighter, hadouken!

Racing:

• Need for Speed Shift, 6.99 - Pick your car and your track. Drive fast and enjoy the graphics.
  
  
• Ridge Racer Accelerated, 2.99 - Not very highly rated, but maybe good if you're a fan of the series.

Sports:

• Football Manager, 9.99 - If you like football a must own.

Puzzle:

• Little Metal Ball, 1.99 - Somewhat of a puzzle game. Use the tilt feature to roll the ball around the level to the finish. Avoid traps, go fast.
  
  
• Rolando, 2.99 (Lite) - A highly-rated, physics puzzle game.
  
  
• Rolando 2, Free, pay to unlock more levels - Sequel to the first.
  
  
• Zen Bound, 2.99 - Wrap rope around objects to relax the mind.

My list is short so far, but we should be able to get a nice list for people to reference. I'm especially interested in finding more fun, free apps/games. Again I can add an apps category to the list, but I put it in the gaming section cause I'm mostly interested in learning about more of the games for the Iphone/touch.

Also, any "futuristic" racing games but that doesn't involve weapons? i.e. F-Zero GX style, but must feel that sense of speed.

But you need to add "N.O.V.A" to the FPS list
MGSTouch isnt bad at all, for a point and click game.
"Zen Bound" is terrific, I recommend it to everyone

I got informed via a family member that there's Ridge Racer for iPhone now? A quick google research tells me it was released nearly 6 months ago. He comments that it's "awesome". Reviews don't think so, but I think it's a worthy addition to the "list". Looks good though.

Haven't picked this up yet, but the game was recently updated (April 24th) with a d-pad control scheme that supposedly improves the game. I think most of the initial bad reviews came from the shitty controls and the fact that you have to buy DLC tracks/cars. question, if i were to download an ipa file onto my pc and tried to upload it on my iphone, what folder would it go to?

trying to get DDR S to work but i can't find the folder where to drop it.

Go to Cydia and install "Appsync", then just open up the .ipa with iTunes and sync it like normal.

In Cydia, if you add cydia.hackulo.us (Under Manage->add), you can just add Appsync (3.1 works on my 3.1.3 Spirit hack) and adding .ipas to iTunes then normally syncing should work. Somethings say you need to download an app, even free, from the store prior, but that should only take a few seconds to find one and add then delete if you don't actually want it.
