Ok so I was listening to my iPod and I have to go pee. So I go to the bathroom and as I'm peeing my iPod eardphone slips out of my ear pulling the other one out as it falls. One of them lands in the toilet bowl as I'm peeing. After cleaning it off, the sound still sounds fine. Other then the obvious "ewwwww urine on you earphone" problem can anything damaging of happened inside of it? I'm going to be pissed if I have to drop like $40 for a new pair...

If they're just earbuds, no, not really. They're just magnets, after all. I would let them dry and then use them.

Of course, if I dropped my headphones in the toilet as I was peeing, I'd throw them out and buy a new pair out of principle. There's a lot of bacteria in the toilet, you know.

Uh, no. Unless the urea in it crystallizes on your earbuds you're not looking at anything real significant. I'd be more worried about the microorganisms teeming all over it at the moment and less worried about the piss.

That's not a very bright idea. It'll react with the ammonia in the piss if there's any residue leftover and release chlorine, effectively fucking up his lungs if he's stupid enough to breathe even a tiny amount in.

It'd be smarter for him to just put them in hydrogen peroxide if he's that dead-set in sanitizing them. Or he can use isopropyl (rubbing alchohol).

And you'd be surprised. A common janitor's joke, I heard, is to pour bleach into the deep urinals so that when people piss in them, it reacts with the urea and causes some really fucked up side effects (none of which kill, since there isn't a high enough concentration to fully react).

But you're right. There probably isn't enough to cause any significant kind of reaction... but the bleach will fuck up the plastics, being that they are also manufactured using chemicals that can react with bleach.

Urine is sterile... Toilet Bowls aren't. Just wipe your earbuds with alcohol and you should be fine.
