Ultima - Mana/Energy screen

Are these really random? Just got out of ultima in a melee heavy group(~5 melee DD, 2 blms), and screens were as follows:
Energy x3, Mana, Energy x10.. I have always assumed it was random which ultima used, however someone in the group suggested that ultima will use the screen that matched primary damage done over the course of the fight, and the mana screen was done after blms had 2hred and one pulled ahead of melee in parse. Has anyone seen similar results or did we just get extremely bad luck?

Hmm... KC Zerg.. I am wondering if it's possible to zerg ultima with 1 or 2 RNG instead

i think it was kaeko/his ls, who killed ultima with a couple of tanks/support/ and the only dmg was done by blms, and they got phsyical screen during the final 20% zerg, so definately random.

Yea we did the 7 man with NIN/DRK RDM/DRK BRD/WHM BLM x4.

The shields were random... we got horribly lucky on Physical Shields.

I actually think someone said Breath Damage bypasses both screens. I would be interested in that and maybe Quick Draw if you're really paranoid abuot shields during your gank.

What about Tomahawk? Neither Wiki makes mention of it on their pages for the JA. I don't seriously expect it would though.

Tomahawk decreases the enemy's damage reduction values (mob equivalent of "___ damage taken -%" gear), but doesn't affect something like Mana Screen, Ahriman Magic Shield, Magic pot's magic barrier that causes spells to simply resist (compare to Temperance where you do 0 damage rather than a "resist" message).

No joke, every Ultima we've done, it's put up the physical shield a second before out RNG hits EES. Every time...
