What? I hope this is a troll/joke thread. 40GB's don't have BC. You need a 20GB, 60GB, or 80GB PS3.
BTW pick up SMT Nocturne instead of FES, much superior game.
No, the 40GB is NOT bc compatible, the discontinued 80gig is, and I think the new GTA4 combo pack has b/c too.
id go with 80 gig, only because... alot of games need installs, each taking like 2-4g each, there was an article about it in the latest game informer (one with Gears of war2 on cover)
no joke, i thought i had read that the 40G was the only BC one - but i wasn't sure, hence the post.
so i need at least a 60G... how much is that gonna run me? =P (only getting one for MGS4 and FFXIII, and figure i should do it now before the ever-shrinking economy makes it nigh impossible).
edit: installs.... really? it's still a console, right? >.> or is that just for faster load times?
Sometimes the installs are optional for faster load times... sometimes (DMC4) they're not. I think a MGS4 PS3 bundle is coming out, maybe you should wait for that? Probably will run you $500-600Originally Posted by wintersquall

that and i need a black one, not gray to match every other single piece of electronic equip i have. guess i should stop being lazy and hit ebay/CL, but i dunwanna. not to mention buying shit online bugs me, i'd rather pick one up at gamestop and get a warranty jic.
Good luck finding a new 60 gig one, Sony stopped production a while ago. It's better to wait for the MGS4 bundle ;x But yeah, Persona 3 is a great game too.
You can get used 60 gigs at Gamestop for $450. You can always swap out the HD with a larger one later if you need it. It's an easy upgrade and it doesn't void your warranty. The 80 gigs aren't fully BC they're more along the lines of the 360's BC since it uses software emulation. The 20 and 60 gig systems are both fully BC since they still have all the PS2 hardware inside of them. Also, the 60 gig has the memory card ports(SD, MS, etc) and built in WiFi.
I tracked down a 60 gig at the beginning of this year and I'm glad I did although all I've been using it for is PS2 games and watching movies. At least the upscaling on old games is nice(and noticeable this time too).
ffs auspice, you just answered every single question i had on my mind, wrapped it up in a neat little bow, and shoved it gently up my poop chute.
Why not get whatever one, regardless of BC. Used fat ps2's are like 80 bucks, on ebay skinny ones are just as cheap.

I mean I don't even think when I buy a PS3 i'll base it on BC. I can always pick up a ps2 for almost nothing as it is.
i've already got a fat ancient ps2 that i'll probably trade in - the issue is space and HD hookups... or basically why have 2 systems when i can only have one that does the same thing imo.
My TV has more than enough places to hook up a wii, ps2, and ps3 If I wanted to. PS2 can use the normal hookup, and hook the ps3 to HD. All i'm saying is i'd go with whatever is cheapest/easiest. I wouldn't spend 50 dollars on shipping and search for a year for a 60gig if it took that much money and time.
I tell people at work to keep their PS2s and get a 40 gig but that's because my customer base is a bunch of neanderthal hicks who only care about GTA and Nascar.
If you get a 20,60, or 80 you can upscale your PS2 games which is fuckwin. Remember how shitty FF12 looked on PS2? I did and it looks way better upscaled on my PS3.
Yeah, you COULD keep your PS2 and get a 40 gig but you'd be compromising plus you'd have more shit hooked up to your TV/entertainment center and I didn't want to deal with it since I've already got a few octopi worth of cables tangled behind my TV as it is.
You're looking at spending probably 50 bucks more to get a used 60 gig then you can unload your PS2 on someone to make the price back. I thought it was worth the headache but w/e.
ff12 looked fine as hell on my 2001 fat ps2.
but yea, finding a 60gb is hard as hell, whenever we had one in stock and it showed up a day later on the gamestop website we'd get like 10 calls that day asking if we had 1 in stock. people really look for those things.
Not on an HDTV it doesn't. Maybe I'm just used to playing XI on my PC where I have my resolution jacked way up but it made my eyes bleed to try to play 12 on my TV.Originally Posted by izembo

FF12 doesn't look that much better on a PS3...
yea looks exactly the same to me too
Nah I wouldn't say that. Some lines are less jaggy, and it looks better on a widescreen than it did on a PS2.
But still, the difference is so minor you have to stop playing, take pictures to compare, and then zoom in to even see the difference.
And that's on an original 60GB, mind you.
I have an old fat ps2 but waiting for mgs bundle for bc. I hate the thought of having both those bulky machines crowding up my living room. It'll just look too tacky for me. I need to wall mount ny tv and get a small chest to hide all my stuff, but the thought of putting mores holes in the wall of a house I plan on selling isn't appealing at all. Wow, that was mostly irrelevant heh.
