PLD sub at Dynamis-Xarc

I tried to make some research on my own, but my Search is broken, sorry if it was already discussed in the past.

I would like to know what your PLDs use as a sub at Xarc, not in a lowman perspective.

I have been using the usual /WAR, but I recently heard that /DRK could be viable and in some cases, better than this sub, so I'd like to have feedbacks of people who tried. We use PLDs for crowd control and NM tanking btw.

If I'm a holder on Royal Family I'll /Nin. If I'm not a holder I'll /War. Always works out fine for us. I don't have /Drk available, but I'm not sure that I'd use it anyway if I did.

/DRK for what exactly? Sounds retarded to me unless you can cite examples where it'd be more effective, nothing in xarc should live long enough for you to really need to build hate, except NMs, which any melee group worth their salt will have off you by 50% no matter what you do.

/Nin for your own surviveability. Especially if your a royal holder. Just easier on everyone involved. Make sure you take off your Crimson gear too

We use /WAR, the PLDs tend to not die, good healers are a plus. That and our PLDs aren't really set up for /nin.

There's no reason not to sub WAR. Even the NMs are very easily held solo by a PLD/WAR.

I /drk for Dynamis - Xarcabard. Mainly it's for DL. In my linkshell my initial Stun to position DL is the cue to unload on it. It's useful on the Vanguard Dragons and Y/Y as well. I always feel like Stun is more effective when you're in the frontlines and can really target out mob weapon skills you don't like.

Aside from saving my ass from a condemnation or quadrastrike here and there, I am probably taking loads more damage than I would be /war, but I don't mind, I have an Aegis and a healer. /shrug

I think if you still have hate by the time all these nasty TP moves get off you should be looking at your melee and ask them to stop skilling up because there is no way you should have hate at that point

It's actually not too difficult for a PLD to keep hate on certain demon NMs that the melee can't do shit to. <_< (WAR, SAM, PLD, THF come to mind, the first two having decent defense) The NMs have very low HP but they make up for it in defense.

we just have our kraken drks souleater the NMs andthe mages cure bomb them. because of the high defense and low hp you mention. I can do 150+ a hit in my hybrid accuracy/hp setup. and a rampage on my decked war could maybe do 150.


Each drk matches up with a thief for feint and the timing seems to fall in place for each platform

I /war in Dynamis-Xarc, its a joke with war sub because not even the NM's hit that hard.

I /war for Xarc usually. /drk can be viable depending on the situation, but usually there are better options. /drk can be pretty good on many things, such as ouryu or JoL, but usually /nin /war or /rdm are as good if not better.

/drks a good sub, with many spike hate tools( Guardian + Sentinel > Souleater > Last resort is HUGE). Many people underestimate its utility and I love showing its potential off.

If you're gonna sub /drk, you're probably better off subbing /blm and holding the mobs einherjar style (if you're not tanking the NMs). Our PLDs , I just make them sub /war, /nin isn't so special here, the mobs don't hit PLDs (with a def setup) for retardedly high numbers anyway.

Couple of our PLDs are subbing DRK nowadays a fair portion of the time, I can't say I've noticed a big functional difference either way. They probably hold slightly better hate, but at the cost of burning through MP pretty quickly and taking more damage overall.

I used it at Ouryu recently against a pld/rdm and we were about equal in overall hate. Stun is on par with Flash for hate and Absorb Vit is also about equal. Not to mention the option of Souleater, and Last resort for large spikes. I was burning through MP pretty quickly, but not that much faster than the pld/rdm.

I'm sorry that I didn't specify this in my post, but I was referring specifically to PLD/WAR vs PLD/DRK in Dynamis, not any other subs or other tanking situations. It doesn't really surprise me that PLD/RDM works similarly, since they share a similar style and benefits/drawbacks.

If it's not a low man run we sub /WAR
anything less than 15 would probably work more efficiently with /NIN
