    Help me diagnose this

Hey, Im not really that computer savvy so Ill try to explain this best I can. I have a Gateway Notebook with Vista installed. For the past few months on and off my laptop seems to freeze on me. However, lets say I have something with sound running for exampled Itunes or AIM. Itunes will still continue playing without skipping a beat and Ill still hear IM sounds like normal as well. My mouse will also work in that I can move it around, but I cant click anything.

The best guess I can think of is the display or video card is messed up. There are times where itll do it a lot and I can barely get the laptop to start up before it freezes on me or Ill leave my laptop on and come back several hours later and based on the time on the screen it froze sometime while I was gone, and then Ill go through times where it works like normal.

I think I just need a new one, even though Ive just had this a little over a year. Can anyone recognize this behavior? I dont have my laptop with me right now, so I can answer questions as best I can.

Sounds like a problem I had with the Dell Latitude D620, it would happen to me for an array of reasons like closing the lid and there be a problem going into standby, somehow not going into standby all the way. Other times it looked like it was from overheating.
