Intermittent Connection with FFXI

The last 3 days I've had a problem with my connection and FFXI.

A little background, I have comcast and a wireless router. This sorta thing happens every couple of months, but it usually is resolved in like an hour or so, but ever since 3 days ago, I can't stay connected to FFXI longer than 10min.

The past few days I've been using that Hotspot Shield that people passed around like a month ago when comcast upgraded servers or something and nobody with Comcast ISP could connect. It has been working fine, but every 3-5hours it auto-disconnects and then I lose connection.

Anyways, I called Comcast when it first happened and they said I could have an intermittent connection, and they'd send a tech out, but the tech found nothing wrong with the line. I've reset my modem, router, computer several times and the problem still persists, any idea what the issue could be?

This might sound silly, but how close are you to your router?

I had this problem, and I mostly noticed it with AIM and FFXI... I moved my computer 10 feet across my room, closer to the router than it was before, and I never have problems now.

and are you running windows vista?

Vista for a very very long time, had a problem with wireless connections. In which the connection would drop to "local only" and you would need to reboot the wireless connection to resolve the issue (might have been fixed with SP1)

i'm 2 floors above my router, using vista, and I lose anything I'm "connected" to (aim and msn lose connection for a split second).

I've been on vista and usually play in my room for the last 8 months and haven't had a problem but idk... lol i still get the problem when i played on the same floor as the router too

Try changing the broadcast channel on your router. Could be local interference giving you an issue.

Adjust it by two or more digits, if you can.
