    DNS Records on AD

Basically I have a domain here with AD, DNS, and DHCP installed. In a perfect world when a client gets an IP it is supposed to go to the DNS server and create a record however this is an Active Directory domain so I can't get computers that aren't in the domain to register a DNS record. I know there are permissions to allow EVERYONE including non domain computers to create records I just can't find it. Can someone help me out?

The DHCP server should be updating/creating the records when assigning the IP address...

There are a couple ways it can do this.

The DHCP server registers and updates client information with the authoritative DNS server of the zone in which the DHCP server is located according to the DHCP client request. (DEFAULT)

The DHCP server always registers and updates client information in DNS. (YOU WANT THIS)

The DHCP server never registers and updates client information in DNS.

My guess is your using the default and you want to change it to always to fix your problem.

To modify this setting, select the Enable DNS dynamic updates according to the settings below check box and click Always dynamically update DNS A and PTR records, which is located in Properties on the DNS tab on the applicable DHCP server or on one of its scopes.

I have that option set and I've released and renewed the IPs a few times and there are still no DNS records being created.

In your DHCP where you put your IP range make sure you got in Option and add Router (gateway) and DNS server. with the good adresses

    2) Click start --- run--- ncpa.cpl Propreties on the connection and click on TCP/IP, but instead of giving it a static adress, click on DNS tag and add your DNS adress manually there

    Should help

On your client when you do ipconfig /all what does it give you as DNC adresses?

I get jeatin.net as connection specific DNS suffix. Which is correct. On the lease the name says:
"mearle-laptop.jeatin.net" however in dns there is nothing in the records. On my main computer I get "mearle-desktop." as a name and jeatin.net as a suffix however no DNS entries.

Nevermind my laptop registered but the desktop still will not register its record.

Static DNS is not set. Everything is given by DHCP.
