    Unknown PCI Device

So I just recently picked up an HT Omega Striker sound card as an upgrade from my onboard audio (Realtek HD Audio), and after installing the drivers (including disabling the onboard audio in the BIOS), I'm now seeing an unknown PCI Device in Device Manager, and the "Install New Hardware" wizard is wanting for me to install a driver for it each time I boot up. I have no idea what piece of hardware it's referring to, and the new sound card is working perfectly fine.

    Relevant specs:

    E8400
    Radeon 4850
    Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3L mobo
    2x 2gb G.Skill DDR2 800 (PC 6400)

    Any ideas?

Yep, you're definitely missing a driver or it's corrupted. Access your safemode and see if the question mark is still there. If it's there then is a hardware issue. Or you can try to identify the culprit with "Uknown Device Identifier" (google).

What'd'cha do with your Realtek? Is it still appearing in your driver manager or not? If you didn't disable it in BIOS and you have another sound card now they can conflict with each other occassionally with certain models.

Edit: Check to make sure it's not being shadowed - even though it's disabled in BIOS it was being used before? It sounds like your system is trying to re-add it, and its probably a conflict between the sound cards in some way or another.

Realtek Audio is a fucking bitch.. I couldn't get mine to work at all so I had to get a USB headset & speakers just so I could hear anything. I think it has some kind of conflict with nForce boards, but you're running an Intel P35 chipset so I dunno why it's not working.

Device Manager doesn't seem to indicate the existence of the Realtek drivers:

The device still shows up when booted into safe mode as well. I tried Unknown Device Identifier, but it doesn't seem to be working on my system. After I run it, nothing really happens, but the application sits in my processes taking up 50% of my CPU.

The only area in my BIOS that seemed to indicate that it was the Realtek audio that I was disabling was under a listing of "Azalia Codec", with options for either Auto or Disable. That's where I set it to Disable, so I'm pretty sure that is correct.

What if your BIOS Disabling feature is not really disabling your old device, have you checked the integrity of the disabling feature? I have seen many motherboards fail to disable peripheral devices in the past, so I would recommend first removing your new hardware, then check if it truly disables the old hardware on its own. If its able to do this correctly, then Completely remove all known instanced Drivers on the hard-drive of that device, restart your computer, check and make sure you bypass and permanently ignore the "Installing New Hardware" option as your computer tries to install it again. It should be safe now to install your new hardware, as the older one is now permanently removed and cannot interfere with your IRQ allocation order.

If your motherboard is unable to disable the older device properly then you may need to contact the manufacturer and possibly obtain new BIOS Drivers or suggest a fix. Technically BIOS is dominant controlling factor of all onboard devices.

Does your soundcard have any special component to it? e.g. my graphics card (geforce 8700M GT) has an ageia physx processor. If I only install the video card drivers, I get an unknown PCI device until I install the physx drivers, too.

Are there any other drivers you need to install for your new card?

google unknowndevices and download 1.4.2 from majorgeeks, if it doesnt tell you exactly what it is, it will at least give you a hardware id that you can search for.
