What melee job?

Hey all,

I started back playing ffxi about 2 weeks ago. I'm leveling RDM now and I wondered what I should level next?

I want to have a melee job definitely! I was just trying to decide which one would be the best to level. I was told that DRG right now is the best and cheapest melee. In merit parties I was told that DRG do really well because of the piercing damage weapon skills.

I don't really have any melee gear yet. I'm going to get RDM to 75 before I even start another job. I was just curious which one you think I should level?

Also, since I started back from scratch I don't have a whole lot of money. That's why I was leading toward DRG, because all the gear on my server is cheap. I know that MNK/NIN/SAM gear later on is really expensive....

Serious answer:
Level whatever is most appealing to you, there is no "best" job at everything. If you think you'd have fun as Dragoon, level Dragoon.

Considering that you can't spell Samurai right I'd stay away from that. As for what job it really depends on what you want to do with it. Is it for meriting only, HNMs, Salvage, etc. Certain jobs are better at certain events.

WAR is pretty flexible. But like others have said, find the one that you have the most fun with.

I've never messed with PUP. I don't know the job very well and how it works.

Based on Psion's data, PUP is less expensive to top out than any other DD job and it's rather strong. Try it. Very few people do. But you'll have the social problems of a 2006 Dragoon.

Monk is tremendous fun at 75, but your opportunities for using it are going to be somewhat limited. In addition, it takes a lot of work to make it competitive with decently-geared 2H jobs, but there's nothing quite like playing a decked out MNK/WAR in a good merit party. Not that I'd know about being decked out Q_Q

WAR is a flexible tank for a lot of situations, doesn't have the same CE hate tools as DRK but being able to generate a ton of VE instantly every 30 seconds makes the job plenty versatile imo.
