    HID modification

Was wondering about HID upgrades for my headlights and was doing some looking around for the kits. The concept seems easy enough but I really dont know much about installing it. Has anyone installed kits on thier vehicles? If so, how hard was it to do it, where did you get the kit, avg price, etc.. I found a guy in my toen who would get the kit and install them on my headlights and fog lights for $180, but idk if its a good deal or not. Opinions?

If your talking about those intensely bright blue tinted lights, please please PLEASE don't put them in >< everytime I drive and someone drives behind me, the random flashes of blue are highly distracting, and utterly blinding if their like 40 feet or closer behind me. Its a total hazard to other drivers and I have no clue why those things havent been banned, and a limit set to brightness of headlights in general.

If thats not what your talking about, then I got no clue and no advice.

If you decide to do it. Just make sure you get a real HID conversion kit. True HID's use a different power voltage, and are brighter, but use less energy. It requires more hardware mods than just a simply bulb change.

It seems like you know this though, since you mentioned a kit.

I mostly just get annoyed when people say they got HIDs for their car, when all they really did was switch in a xenon bulb.

Maybe you should just get new, whiter bulbs (note - not bluer). I struggle to believe a proper kit only costs only $180. Also, for you headlights and fog lights? Who has HID fog lights?

And the burning question, what kind of car is it?

I hate people who improperly install them in their redneck mobile and blind everyone around them when it gets dark out. Don't be one of those douche bags.

Well the "real" HID lights are rarely overly bright. I have em in my car and even tho being really low to the ground may have something to do with it I've never had anyone tell me about em (Like friends I'm following etc.)

Edit: Actually after looking it up i have projector + reflector type headlights.

I have a 2000 Ford Focus ZX3. I would just go with the headlights, but i just really dont like the look of white headlights with yellow fog lights. And regardless of how annoying they look or w/e, i'm still getting them. Has anyone installed a kit themselves?

It's not so much the lights themselves I find annoying, it's being blinded by the lights in the middle of the night and nearly crashing because I can't fucking see that really annoys me. But hey they look cool so you should totally go for it!

    griefing about lights go!

but yeah, that shit seriously is the most fucking annoying thing late at night, don't voluntarily put them in unless whatever it is you do for work or whatever requires that you need that extra bit of light

long time lurker, few times poster here

but i wanted to share my experience with HID's. i have a 98 monte carlo that i recently did a HID kit swap with and i am VERY happy with the outcome. ill post a few pics of before and after so u can see the difference.

    with stock before...

and after with HID kit and clear headlights...

the HID kit itself was only $70 shipped to my door from Ebay. very easy to install, only took about 30 min for the HID's. its plug n play so no modification required to get them hooked up. remember DO NOT TOUCH THE BULB when installing them, the oil from ur fingers can screw em up. the HID kit consists of a Ballast that your current bulb socket plugs into and then the ballast socket that plugs into the new HID bulb that replaces your current halogen. pretty simple stuff, if you can change your headlight bulb, you can install an HID kit. just make sure you properly aim them after install cuz they give off alot more light and may need to be aimed lower to avoid blinding other drivers.

the higher the temp they burn the bluer more purple they look. mine are 10k but if u want a whiter light then go with like 6k. and purple is 12k. i picked 10k cuz i like the blue light, i think it looks good with a black car.

as for all the people complaining about the lights they see on the road, its most likely due to the improper aiming of their headlights after installation. if not aimed properly they WILL shine into oncoming drivers which is very unsafe, so you need to adjust your lights after u install the HID's for safety. i have had mine in for about 4 months now and havnt had a single person flick brights at me, and i have tested it by driving in front of my car while in another vehichle just to see how bad they were and they dont seem to be a problem for other drivers.

there are a large % of newer vehicles being manufactured with HID's stock and thats why you see alot of "blue" lights driving around. although alot of newer cars have "projector" style headlights with cover the bulb itself while projecting the light evenly. the reason behind this is HID lights are MUCH better than regular halogen cuz HID light is designed to stimulate the reflective surface of street signs resulting in lighting them up like a neon sign which helps alot when driving. HID's also replicate daylight and cover a much bigger area than standard stock halogen lights. so those complaining about these lights obviously have never had the pleasure of driving with them. if its a problem for you then let them pass you on the road, there is another lane.

    any other questions please ask.

Do you not drive or walk around where people drive cars ever? The super blue bright ass ones are too bright, if you ever drive at night and someone behind you or coming at you has those things you can't see for like 10 seconds after

its blinding when u stare right into the light sure. try that with any other halogen light and get the same effect. stop looking at the light dead on like some kind moth and its not a problem.

and for sythe- the HID kit requires more power to turn on but runs on less voltage to run so its more energy efficient for your vehicles power system. and they are not god awful, unless u look directly into them like the others complaining in this thread. they are much safer to drive with especially if you live in areas that are not well lit up. the HID's also light up the corner of the direction you are about to turn which is nice so u can see peds, animals or other oncoming hazards.

obviously the HID's you see on the road are blinding you from the benefits of having them.
