Otherwise, in the UK here on the wierd "filler" channels there's often a program shown every now and then called "America's Toughest Prisons". It's quite good in a way it interviews the prisoners and they tell you about their life there, and other random stuff like communities/enemies in prison, pecking order, that kinda thing. I'm sure there's episodes online somewhere.

The have a lot of info about how things work, and some specials on things like education for inmates, crafts, drug rings, and solitary.

In all seriousness, you could give a decent, interesting presentation about the way the rich and famous get treated versus average joes. Start by googling the way Charles Barkley's recent, brief incarceration was handled.

DO cite newspapers, reputable television shows (eg 60 Minutes), reputable magazines (eg Time, Newsweek), and, preferably, academic journals

DO NOT cite wiki, movies, CSI (City) shows, or BG forums

Currently working at a Juvenile Prison with Violent and Sexual Offenders. I'll tell you this much about their lives. The quality of their time is entirely up to them, meaning, those that want to have privileges and want to rejoin society will do their programs, behave and earn higher levels and therefore more privileges. I'd say this applies to the minority though, there is a reason out of 45 current federal inmates only 2 are the highest level and 4 are the 2nd highest.

As far as daily activities, that varies from facility to facility. The Federal Bureau of Prisons sets guidelines but the overall rules are decided by the facility as long as they fall within those guidelines. Two things every single inmate will do regardless of level:

1. Know every single piece of information or gossip shared among the employees. They have nothing but time to listen.

2. Try to manipulate employees. It may be as simple as trying to get an extra phone call to sneaking in contraband.
