Ballad range?

I noticed something odd recently on BRD. While people were resting (ie, not moving), I'd stand in the same spot with the same instrument (Nursemaids in this case, for a mage party) and cast ballads. Ballad 2 would hit a few people, Ballad 1 would hit everyone...huh? I was under the impression that song area was based on the instrument and skill, not the specific song. Am I wrong?

I thought the range of the song depended on your level of skill above the 'cap' relative to the level of the song. Since Ballad II is a higher level song, you are fewer skill levels 'over' it, so its range is slightly shorter than Ballad I.

It should fix itself soon, but I remember seeing this when I got bard to 55. It's even more noticeable with a string instrument. My ballad 1 has about 16-17 range while ballad II has about 12.
