Biggest failures of FFXI throughout the years...

Over the course of many years now. New things introduced by Square-Enix have came, and gone due to the lack on the company's part.

Which do you feel were the biggest letdown?

Which do you feel should come back with a vengeance and either be fixed/modified, or even updated to the players standards.

Note; I didn't include FoV, MMM, etc. since they are still very new and being currently updated occasionally.

Chocobo Racing

What a fucking waste of zone and update the chocobo colosseum is

Should just eliminate tax in the colosseum and make it so you can traverse between all 3 city and jeuno on it, that way at least that shit will be useful, and who knows, maybe in between checking bazaars for item, people would be bored enough to actually bet on chocobo race.

I'd say the pvp stuff, they started out with good ideas on how to make it work, then BLU came out and they just said fuck it.

Started first week of NA PC release and I've honestly never done a single one of the events on that list, (no interest to try them either). I guess thats one of the good things about this game though, while not every event is going to be a big hit, there is a wide variety of content to suit many different play styles/ preferences.

If I were to pick something for the "other" category, it would probably be Salvage. While the overall rewards from the system are outstanding imo, it is by far the biggest let down to me in the time to reward ratio of any of the events I do. (I don't do Kings, they have never even come close to fitting into my acceptable range of time/reward >_>)

I don't ever do Ballista or Brenner, and had forgotten Diorama even existed, wow. I guess Chocobo Racing, just because it has so much potential which was never realized.

Honestly, I'd love to add Beastmaster to that list also. Fun until I take it to an event and then OMFG it fails so hard.

Having said all that, there have been times when they've gotten new events almost completely right (Limbus), spectacular successes to go along with the spectacular disasters.

Honestly, outside of Garrison...which doesn't really need anything new, everything on that list is an event that goes ignored by the masses. Both PvP games have so many problems I couldn't begin to start on them. Pankemon is fun, for a while, but in the end just becomes pointless. Hot & Cold I can't really say I know much about, but I know as someone who was a big fan of the circuit, it's a good concept that just isn't popular.

The problem with all these mini-games isn't that they're actually bad, but that they're not rewarding. Why spend time playing Pankemon when you can just trade coins for the jetsons you need to get the camera you need to get the pics you need to get the Zeni you need to get ZNM stuff? Why spend a month+ raising a chocobo to be a top breed racer when you can only really race once a day...and lose often since the com cheats. Or even hang out in the circuit betting on races when all the numbers they give you mean jack dick.

And with PvP...what's the point? Other then beating down someone just for the fun, in the long run people get little out of it so people just avoid it. With Ballista especially since all those scheduled matches never go off since no one actually joins them. And Brenner can suck an egg. I always thought it would have been cooler if Ballista, a team sport, had actual standing teams you could make. With actual rankings and tournaments people could participate in at their leisure (i.e. two teams set an agreed day/time to play, not when the game decides to start). But that's never likely to happen nowadays.

In the end though, I went with Choco racing since it was the thing i was most looking forward too and for a while actually enjoyed. Not as a racer, but as a spectator. Back when it first came out, betting on a sure thing actually meant you had a good chance to win. I could easily go in, throw down 2k and walk out with 10k betting on a sure thing. Now, the top ranked numbers never win so it's nothing but a total craps shoot and just not worth it and I haven't been able to win once since the change.

I forgot about Ballista, Brenner, and Diorama. Pankration is useful only because it lets us get Zeni for ZNM, and it is as unbalanced as every other aspect of this game. Garrison just lacks rewards that make it worth doing. Chocobo Racing / Hot and Cold I have no experience with, mainly because they lack rewards that would make them competitive with other time sinks.

Einherjar T1-3 "dropping abjurations" is a big disappointment. I've yet to see one and have done almost 20 Odins, a few of which were pre-patch. I'd be shocked if the drop rate was above 2%, and generally blame the lack of sheep for everything.

Fortifications nerf. Marbles nerf. AV nerfs. PW existing. All big letdowns!

Chocobo Racing

Takes forever and a day to get a chocobo decent enough for it, stupid race limits per day killed it before it started and theres no fun in bets on computer-driven races.
They failed to put any incentive for doing it, in comparison Pankration has at least a (forced) usefulness: having a monster makes gathering Jettons really easy.

Really bad design, wherever they could (has people said already) some sort of duty-free market, connected to every major city. As it is now is just a waste of bytes.

Hmm I was thinkin that white chocobo monster races in Pashow Marshlands. Mainly because it just died and fell off the face of the earth. But I guess I'd have to say my least favorite is Garrison. Probably because I dont have any friends, it just requires too much to do for too little reward. But if EcoWarrior was up there I'd vote for it... lawd...

Anyways, I still use Chocobo race betting when im bored and want free money. Also along with EcoWarrior I would vote for that stupid Easter event, what a freakin failure.

An all the above option would be nice. But personally, for me, it's PvP in general (Ballista, Brenner, Diorama.) It's so much fun when you do it with large amounts of people who actually like doing it but it died out really fast with Blue Mage and lack of rewards and updates. An update just surrounding ballista adjustments would be nice.
