so yeah.. looks like the david letterman/sarah palin feud has escalated over the weekend.

Am I wrong in thinking that these wingnuts need to develop a sense of humor or a life asap?

tl;dr Letterman cracked two jokes: one comparing the way Palin dresses to a slutty flight attendant, and the other saying that her daughter got impregnated by Alex Rodriguez during the 7th inning stretch of a Yankees game they went to recently. Palin flipped the shit thinking he was talking about her 14 yr old daughter. Letterman says hes talking about the 18 yr old daughter and you'd have to be a moron not to get that. Palin goes on the Today Show where Matt Lauer also tries to explain why Palin is misunderstanding everything to no avail.

P.S. Apparently Leno told the same joke back in September right when Palin's daughter's pregnancy was THE political scandal to talk about with John Edwards substituting for A-Rod and nobody cared.

Well, she took the 14 year old daughter to NY, and he cracked jokes about her daughter fucking a NY baseball player, so you'd have to be a moron not to think he's referring to the daughter who was actually in NY.

I don't think it was an intentional 14-year-old sex joke, I think that Letterman's writers didn't have their facts straight and now it's become this whole stupid whatever. Letterman already apologized, fuckers need to move on.

It's an interesting political ploy.

The right wing has been trying to paint Letterman as part of the "crazy left wing" now for years. The problem is, any fan of Letterman will tell you that he's really isn't. He has guests from both political parties on all the time as long as they make for interesting interviews. His now legendary McCain interview wasn't politically motivated, as much as it was just general anger and annoyance that McCain thought he could get away with lying to Letterman. It was just bad form.

This calculated risk to try and further Letterman as a "crazy lefty" isn't going to pay off at all. People like Letterman a lot, and the man has become an institution. Moreover, people are buying less and less into phony outrage stories, which this completely is. All they do is frenzy the extreme wing of the base. Letterman made a rare mistep in apologizing, but I think its because he really wants Palin on as a guest.

I wish the democrats would fucking viciously attack everyone that disagrees with them when they're out of power, maybe then we could've actually stopped Bush instead of standing around jacking off while he destroys the country knowing they're going to block every step of the way when it's our turn, and then point at how we didn't get shit done to get back into power.

No, you'd have to be a moron to not get the joke period. It is plainly obvious - Letterman was referring both to A-Rod and Bristol Palin's promiscuity. The idea that Sarah Palin is getting any traction off of this farce is mind-numbing. Not to mention the ridiculous notion that anywhere in the joke was the word 'rape' mentioned.

Of course, if Letterman REALLY wanted to do the joke right he'd have said A-Rod impregnated Sarah Palin since he's a cougar hunter.

Letterman isn't gonna get fired over this, lol. Who the fuck would they replace him with? They'd have a gaping timeslot to fill. That means less money I guess. Oh, and this hasn't been said yet, but:

Letterman owns his own show in his entirety (Worldwide Pants Inc.). The only way Letterman gets "fired" is if CBS stops airing the show, which I imagine violates all kinds of contracts and agreements.

Letterman also owns The Late Late Show w/ Craig Ferguson, so I would imagine the same rules apply.

Considering her 14-year old daughter was in New York with Sarah Palin - why would you think he's referring to the other daughter who is in Alaska?

I think the reference was to the daughter on the trip with her, but I'd give them the benefit of the doubt in assuming that it was the other daughter on the trip when they wrote that joke.

If the 18 year old had been on the trip, shit's fair game. Politicians' kids are generally off-limits until they do things that are illegal (Bush's kids underage drinking stuff) or hilarious (unwed teenage pregnancy).

Letterman should have apologized due to his writer's mistake and it never should have been an issue. Both parties seem to be using it to further their own personal interests and it seems that only Letterman is winning. Sarah Palin needs to disappear into the eskimo from which she came from. He shouldn't have apologized period. His writers don't read every new story in sufficient detail to know which daughter was actually in attendance. It was obvious that he was touching back on the Palin daughter story that actually was big news right up until people started falling for her political maneuvering.

And he should have apologized on behalf of his writers. 14 year old pregnancy jokes should always be off limits. I know they didn't intend it to play that way but their lack of research was their fault. And since Letterman is their 'spokesperson' and reaps the benefits of such position he should apologize. Just a quick 'we didn't do our research, our bad' and then move on. Nothing big.
