    Used Motorcycle

I'm looking at getting a used bike. There's a Suzuki GS700 close by. I believe the guy said its a 1983. He's asking for $1500, but it needs a little work. He said the rear master cylinder needs replaced. The bike started fine when I was there, and there is only slight cosmetic damage.

Anyway, I was thinking about offering $1200. Would that still be high or about right or what? Looking for advice, and thanks for reading. Also, sorry if it doesn't belong in general.

too high for the year, that's even high for an early 2000 model, plus the brake job needing to be done.

Okay. Most bikes I've seen around my area have been asking for $2-3k for about the same year and size. My GF's dad is a motorcycle guy so I'm hoping I can get a chance to talk to him about it, but my friend and I weren't sure how extensive that brake thing would be.

The Ninja 500 I bought a few years ago was only 4-5 years old and it was only $2100. also was the bike warm when he showed you how well it started? or was it all the way cold?

Pent is right. That guy is trying to find a sucker for that bike. 1500 is absurdly overpriced. Especially with the fact that it needs work. Pass on it, he's trying to take you for a ride.

It was raining, and we didn't call ahead, just stopped in, so I think it was cold.

I'll go ahead and offer $500, and if he doesn't take it, I'll just keep looking. Thanks for input guys.

I offered $500 and he wasn't interested. I applied for a small loan to get a bike today, but won't found out until tomorrow. I don't know if I want to go higher with this guy, but it seemed like a good bike for how old it was.

Here's another I saw though: http://harrisburg.craigslist.org/mcy/1205894668.html It looks nice, but my knowledge of motorcycles isn't very extensive. I'll try not to make this into "Halp me buy my 1st bike BG!" thread.

Well, I didn't want 2k, but the bank said thats the lowest they go. My friend says bikes usually go quick so I wanted to have some cash to get one, then pay it off after next pay day.

Soooo, that bike looks nice, but I can't afford $2.5k on a minimum wage job atm lol

Why would you ever put yourself (further?) in debt when you're only working a minimum pay job? Save up the money or don't buy it, it's not a hard concept.

It was more to get the bike I was looking at, and pay the loan off in 2 weeks. I don't think I'm going to get the loan just because I'm still not sure about that bike.

You'd be retarded to pay that much for a bike that is older than 2000 and not a harley or jesse james.

Save the money for it, seriously. Do not go into debt just to buy a used bike. It's just plain silly to do that.

I got denied without a co-signer. I was planning on paying off the loan after a payday or two, and was hoping to build some credit with it also. Since the bike I was looking at was not recommended by you guys and some people I know, I'm just going to wait until I have enough and find a bike I like that runs.

True this. I used to be swamped under loans and debt. I caught a lucky break when i sold my home theater company about 7 years ago and was able to put myself back to a clean slate. Now I have no bills at all beside home and insurance. It's a beautiful thing. When I want something I save up until it doesn't hurt to spend the money on it.

When I bought my last car I just bought a '91 mr-2 turbo for 4500 bucks while i saved up. Now I have a 2001 bmw 3 series convertable free and clear.

I'm not saying that it's easy by any means, but it's well worth it to have the restraint. I never want to be under the debt mountain again.

you would have to have the loan for 6-8 months for it to really effect your score. what any loan company would say is "they had the money anyway and never needed the loan" they would disregard something like this being payed off as you not even having it. (as it's not a reoccuring line of credit such as a credit card that you keep the balance at zero).

Oh, I never get a good answer any time I ask about it. I've had a credit card for a little over a year, but all I put on it is gas, and pay it at the end of the month. Someone told me to leave a little credit on there to get interest to build credit, but I didn't like doing that if I could help it.

As for saving up, like I said I work 37.5 hour for minimum wage. One day every other week at Gamestop doesn't help much either. I was hoping to get a motorcycle to ride this summer, but for insurance and possibly a helmet and inspection, it might be until July or later.

But anyway, I appreciate all the advice most of you gave me. I'll keep my eye out for a motorcycle, but I'll wait until the moment comes I can get one.
