Is there alot of PvE or end-game content?
I really dont care about Pvp aspect ( play FFXI for 3 years and spent 0 mins on ballista ). If i want some hardcore PvP, i play L4D or CSS.

read the 1.5 patch super thread (and the other patch notes inside that one). they're trying hard to give a good balance between pve and pvpve. if you aren't into any pvp at all, it might not be the right game for you just because you'd miss half of the game. i wouldn't judge pvp on your ffxi ballista tho. i did 3-4 ballistas (ewwwww, so bad) in 4 years of final fantasy but i had an incredible fun time during the last aion beta event when some filthy asmon assassin came trough a rift and tried to gank me.
Ballista is a poor excuse for PvP as FFXI is so unbalanced to PvP its stupid.
If you want a PvE only game you might want to go with WoW on a PvE server as that has better options for PvE.
This is a PvPvE game so if you don't enjoy PvP you will miss out on half of it like he said above.
I think you will like PvP because I did after I left FFXI but you just need it to be in a different format then what FFXI offeres and have it a little faster paced.
I used to feel the same way about PvP awhile ago, but after getting into it in a few games, it really is a lot of fun. I say give it a try before you knock it.![]()
Ballista as PvP.. lol.
You'll get so pumped up your first day mobbin and chasing Asmo's in Eltnen that you'll completely forget you were PvPing. (If you're Eylos <. <)
I hated PvP with a passion. It is why I chose to start my MMO life with FFXI instead of one of the more pvp centric games of the time. After playing WoW I can honestly say that PvP has its place and can be fun. After playing C-Aion for a time, I can honestly say that its about 80% fun and 20% annoying as hell.
The problem with WoW on a PvP server is that when you find open world PvP more than likely you are probably questing and end up getting camped so you are SoL. The beauty of Aion is that while this can be done, it tends to not be done routinely. There are some countermeasures in place to stop camping in your home areas. You also have many options at your disposal to deal with campers from using kisks to respawn closeby to calling in reinforcements. Unlike WoW or other games, PvP in the home zones tend to bring out people wishing to help protect others and deal with these gankers.
In short, as someone who is so adamantly against PvP, I really suggest you give Aion a try. The endgame has ALOT to do with PvP, but it gives you limited options on how to avoid it and participate in PvE content.
Considering FFXI was my first MMO, and Ballista left well.. something to be desired, I love the pvp in this so far. When I hit the first cap in the first beta weekend and I was just exploring around, people were dueling down near the Airship thingy dock in Sanctum, I watched for a bit & thought it looked fun so I joined in, god damnit it was awesome.
I did play War a bit and didnt like it much.
FFXI had pvp? Thought that was just PVE with others players.
2 forms of PvP in FFXI
Fist was Ballista with level caps which in theory were cool but the problem was before level sync that getting a bunch of gear for 20/30/40/50/60/70 cap was stupid and annoying, that and it was so spread out(once to twice a month for just 30 level cap for example) that no one would do it, that and some of the low caps like 20 and 30 were in like the marshlands where you could easily get killed by the environment and lose XP.
The other one required ballista points to rent out and it was basically like Fort Ghesable or that Island after the boat ride that name escapes me with no cap and after 5 minutes if you were not a melee DD, a job with /nin or a RDM then you wish you were :/
Anyways /rant off
I played FFXI for 6yrs, it was sarcasm, lol.
That wooooooooosh was over 9000! :D
Am I the only person here who liked Ballista? Of course it was imbalanced but when you got a big 20v20 going on in Diorama Ghelsba it was actually pretty fun if you took it for what it was, beating the shit out of your friends that have talked shit about how much their _____ does in merit parties, and using them as a Colibri for an hour.
Anyways, if Dark Poeta and Dredgion are any indication of what Aion has in store for us who love PvE, then I think we'll be just fine.
I liked it at first, but it started to get stale after awhile. I loved it before the Asuran Fists nerf where I could run around one shotting tarusQQ
in your opinion, how is Aion PVP compared to WoW PVP?
I consider WoW PvP quite aggressive, because your goal is to make your opponent unable to react or kill him so fast he wont notice. This tends to cause frustration on the losing side because you didnt really have any true chance to "play".
What about Aion?
In a lot of situations its about who sees who first and reacts the fastest/knows how to play the class, but thats not always true. Sometimes just being a level or two over an opponent has a big effect, most notably with resists.
Sometimes its an even fight that lasts 15-20 seconds, sometimes you get merked.
Not even remotely similar. WoW PvP is so gear dependent. Yes, gear in Aion is important also, but it's not the be-all-end-all it is in WoW. Also, unless your a sorc and get those crits to 2-3 shot somebody (lol), fights are a lot more strategic and its not who can CC the other first
