It seems that we here like to judge people based on their actions. This is obviously the nature of human beings in society. We judge people according to their willingness to obey societal laws we create. However, I am of the belief that most peoples actions/thoughts/behaviors are genetically based. Yes I understand that there is a huge fight between nature vs. nurture advocates and I feel (as I am sure most people do) that it is a mixture of both.
The problem I have is that the things we now imprison/kill people for are the same things that has kept us alive as a species for the past tens of thousands of years (biblefags keep your ass out of this thread).
So, now that we have created a system of rules that go against what have been doing for the majority of our existence, is it fair to kill/imprison people that do these things?
If not, what would be the right thing to do. We have only been acting in huge societies since the agricultural revolution (8k yrs ago or so). We have not had the opportunity to evolve to what we have created as of yet.
Maybe the imprisonment/killing of those who violate our current laws will allow our species to evolve properly into the environment we have created for ourselves; however, who knows how long this will last. Hypothetically speaking, if we have a post apocalyptic world, would the rapists/murderers not have the advantage in procreation? Why are humans pedophiles anyways, was there an advantage to being one in our genetic history.
I as for your opinion on this topic, as I walked abuncha miles home because I did not want to drink and drive (most conformist thing I have ever done) and came up with my own conclusion. Please tell me yours.
NOTE FOR THE IGNORANT: I am not an advocate of this type of behavior, this is merely a venue to discuss how we treat our species as we evolve socially, which is 1000x faster than we evolve genetically.
