    People and their gearscore

Okay I've gotta come to BG and vent somewhere. Though it's rather just to see if there's anyone in the world that understands what I mean.

Everytime a new patch comes out, the requirements for raids become higher and higher.

Before 3.3, holy paladins didn't need 40k mana or 55k health to heal/tank 3.2 content. So why is it that now that 3.3 is out anyone who is 'under geared' (aka doesn't have full ICC25 heroic gear) apparently is automatically UNABLE to heal/tank 3.2 content.

    Story:

    I was making a ToGC 10 raid. I'm a holydin with 32k mana / 2.5k SP buff'd. Before 3.3 that was considered GEARED for Ulduar/TOC am I wrong?

So having the appropriate gear for the appropriate raid I was making a group for, a retarded shammy calls me out on my gearscore. He says that I'm not geared enough for this and hopes I'm good. I simply tell him I'm fine, because I am. If anyone disagrees that 32kmana 2.5k SP buff'd for ToGC10man is enough please let me know and explain why.

So we start the fight and it's going well, Gormok is already at 20% DPS is all doing 5.5k-6k which is fine. Then he throws fire on me, instinctively I move left. As I was moving left I see a snobold flying onto the hunter I'm moving towards. We're both stunned and simutaneously a fire pops under both of us where we both die.

Simply unfortunate. There was no skill involved to avoid such a thing. I could have bubbled but I found it more useful at dreadscale/acidmaw so I saved it.

Well as soon as we wipe the shammy calls me out on dying first and says "SEE YOUR GEAR IS SHITTY YOU SUCK!' rage quits and leaves. Of course everyone knows in a pug when someone rage quits everyone else does too so I wasted an hour getting a group together.

My question to WoW BG is, do any of you understand the point I'm trying to make? The same thing happened in Naxx when Ulduar came out. "YOU DON'T GOT 4K DPS YOU CAN'T DO NAXX!" When naxx is easily done with 2.5k DPS.

    Thanks for reading.

I wouldn't have saved my bubble, since 'don't die' is more important than 'plan for the next mob' but shitty pug members will always find an excuse to ragequit out. At least you didn't get saved to your particular crapfest.

It's worse, much worse as a tank. Tanks with 27k health are getting booted from heroic UK because apparently, not having crusader orb crafted gear isn't good enough for the blue-dropping bosses.

Holy fuck I saw this on my server too I called the nigger out. He was shouting in trade "LF1M tank for heroic runs PST WITH HP/GS"

Seriously people? Is this what WoW has come to? *sigh*

edit: also yea I should have bubbled but I figured the group would be good enough to run back in quick buff and continue the 40second encounter we just started.

He is obviously retarded if he rage quitted for this, but getting 4800gs+ takes 1-2 days worth of badge farming top. PUG often have a bunch of shitty people, and outgearing the encounter really help making up for the dead weight. I could understand why someone would get annoyed at people having less GS than this, because it means they havent made a small effort to keep up to date gear.

GS alone doesnt give you much info, but once combined with everyone dps/tanking/healing, it says a lot about how efficient someone is.

This is less a problem with GearScore as it is with people who suck. I have to PUG a lot and what I've noticed, especially from the people who whore GS instead of actual skill, is that PUGs essentially just want to be carried. You can have a carry or two, though I don't know why you'd permit it, but most PUG raids I've been in have consisted of 15 carries, which is why I still don't have the 25 Saurfang kill in spite of how easy his fight really is.

Basically, it was a PUG, it happened, we move on.

ToGC10, the instance lock and save happens when the first attempt is used.

If you release before the wipe completes you will not get saved.

Really? Did something change in 3.3, because in all the runs I ever did the "You are now saved to this instance" triggered immediately upon re-entry into the instance after death or when the last person dropped.

Unless you're talking about releasing before the wipe is nearly complete and hitting the entrance so that you rez outside, I guess I could see that preventing a lock.

90% of wow's difficulty comes from retards. If gearscore keeps going unchecked like it is, the good players are going to leave, and all that's left is a bunch of 12 year olds circle-jerking to gs while pulling 1.2k dps in 5400 gs. I've seen tanks in greens tank 10x better than full epic tanks, same with healers, dps, etc. gearscore is completely and utterly worthless.

My server is completely the opposite honestly. They'll take a DK with 71 points in Blood and half tank greens and half DPS blues (3k gearscore -maybe-) into fucking <anything> and wipe 4 times before anyone has the balls to say a word, which, instead of leading to this one gimp fuck being kicked, leads to the people that know what they're doing ragequitting.

I've seen it happen multiple times.

Edit: Completely irrelevant, but seeing people shout for healers for FL when it's the weekly is absolutely hilarious.

They claim that if they banned Gearscore that players would just prejudge others through different means.

Personally i hate GS, especially playing a class who can often get more out of lower ilvl items(hi2u DMC:Greatness, Mjollnir runestone) than a lot of higher junk.

I'd prefer checking someones armory or just inspecting them in game to judge if they are geared for something, or have my druid friend do the same if they are a caster class, but i never expect over-geared people, i'd even take slightly under-geared people so long as they are good players and the group as a whole can compensate.

The problem with gearscore is that people dont use it as a guideline and take it as fact, i love to argue with people about gearscore while they treat it like god and more than likely mine is higher than theres.

And im going to say im less likely to invite someone if they have a low gearscore rath than someone with 5.4k or so. GEAR = SKILL!

I hold onto a lot of gear I've collected lately because I am never entirely positive that I won't need it later. To whit, I have just checked the scores of several trinkets. My Sundial of the Exiled, which is still a rather viable trinket in current content, is iLevel 200 and therefore scored at 174 (sidenote: the guy behind the add-on claims that it marks more than iLevel and he's full of shit, in that the only additional factor is the rarity value, hence why my Frozen Bonespike is still 100 points less than Val'anyr). My Nevermelting Ice Crystal is iLevel 232 and gives 226 GS. And my Muradin's Spyglass is iLevel 251 with 257 GS. So someone who is still shackled to a pair of iLevel 200 trinkets, even if they're totally viable, is looking at a 135 GS "disadvantage." Similarly, until recently, I was using a pair of 219 boots because it was the best way I could get my Hit cap. I have been able to jump up to some 232 boots (meh - working on crafted ones right now) for a gain of 26 GS.

So, yeah, there's definitely an issue with GearScore. On the other hand, though, people would simply demand DPS prior to its inception or ask their WoW-heroes score. Particularly the former is an even more troubled metric as there are specs that bring a great deal of raid utility (Arms Warriors, Shadow Priests, Demonology Warlocks) at the cost of DPS as compared to an Assassination Rogue or Needs-to-be-nerfed Death Knight.

What's the solution? Don't PUG, really. And it's an irritating solution when a fair amount of the content is PUG'able. I see plenty of people who underperform in spite of their GearScore, but they could just as readily underperform compared to their claimed (and unverifiable) DPS against a Heroic Training Dummy. As long as you're dealing with people who need a quick measure of someone's ability and experience, things like GearScore and Achievements will be a thorn in your side. Trust me, I feel the same way about it, but complaining about problems that are really a matter of PUGs probably isn't going to change much.

Because of the fact there are a lot of players that don't preform well in spit of their gear score, I recommend if you're gonna pug at all use Elitest Group. It factors in gems, enchants, and the number of times people have completed an instance. There is also a way to leave comments that will be sent to others that have it depending on what privacy setting you set to it.

Here's the link if anyone cares to get it...

Gearscore is an absolutely atrocious system to judge people on. Whoever came up with gearscore should be shot multiple times because they only contributed to further retardation of your average wow player.

Bring the player not the equipment. This simple statement is why gearscore should be banned from WoW.

If this were FFXI, I'd agree with you. But in WoW, gear actually matters more than you seem to want to give credit. You can be the best goddamn player on the planet, but if you're in <4k gearscore caliber equipment and thrust into TotC/ICC, you won't perform. Because you can't. Or maybe you can manage to put out something marginally decent in terms of damage, but you're putting more strain on the rest of your raid to keep up.

Bring the player with the equipment.

    Exactly.

The stupid players is going to be stupid no matter what. I've seen retarded gear score requirement, or people acting like GS = skill, but most of the time, it simply act as a first filter in your party.

And before gearscore, I got yelled at for not having 30k hp when I was starting as a tank, and couldnt do TOC because I didn't have the achievement...thing like this arent better. I have less trouble meeting the "gearscore" requirement than anything else.
