As I'm typing this, the week 2 thread is almost 60 pages. The NFL fanbase has increased almost as much as the ratings have for the year. Well, that and a certain someone trolling the hell out of the thread.
The theme of this week has to be the 0-2 and the 2-0 teams. The Titans, favored by many to be a playoff team, has started 0-2. The dolphins, 0-2. The Jets, 2-0, the Broncos, 2-0. Who's going to bend and break, who's going to step up their game?
Washington at Detroit (+6.5) - I could not, should not pick the Lions. I cannot, will not pick the Lions. Washington is terrible. Beyond terrible. The team is in complete disarray, Portis cannot explode through the line, the receivers cannot produce, and they are fresh of just beating the worst team in the NFL by the skin of their teeth. Stafford still isn't looking great, but he has no pressure. Kevin Smith had 80 yards last week against the best run D in the league. I like Detroit with the outright win.
Green Bay at St. Louis (+6.5) - What a terrible loss for the Packers last week. Heavily favored, they choked up a loss and allowed an opponent to lambeau leap into the stands. How in the hell did Bengals fans get tickets in the endzone UPDATE: Chad planted them there...that's lame, and lucky.. Blasphemy. Green Bay is going to rebound huge in this game and throw the ball around like a your uncle throws the nerf ball on Thanksgiving. Look for a 300+ yard game from Rogers. Green Bay to cover.
San Francisco at Minnesota (-7) - Very interesting game. Both teams are red hot. Favre is playing very well, mostly because he has to do nothing other than harbor a potent offense. I love a defensive mind like Singletary to come up with a gameplan to slow down the offense, and Shaun Hill, who's been relatively impressive, to move the ball around. Minnesota to win, San Francisco +7.
Atlanta at New England (-4) - GET OFF THE BOAT. A match between a ship that everyone is jumping off of and a ship that everyone is dying to get on. Unfortunately, I don't think Atlanta has the personnel or coaching to do to Brady what Rex Ryan and the Jets were able to do. I like New England to win HUGE in this game. I will say this though, this is a very important game for the NE defense. They better get their eggs in a basket or it's going to be a very long season. NE to win and cover.
Tennessee at NY Jets (-2.5) - The battle of the surprise teams. The Jets just polished off the Patriots in the Meadowlands. The Jets are playing fantastic football and the Titans defense has been -less- than stellar. The jets have been relentless at getting to the QB. WIth all that said, I hate teams who play good teams after big wins. Tennessee is going to win this game.
Kansas City at Philadelphia (-9.5) - Really, why is Cassel starting? Croyle has played well since last season. Not that it matters, Philly is going to beat the brakes off the Chiefs and cover.
NY Giants at Tampa Bay (+6.5) - The Giatns rushing attack has been fairly sad. Jacobs has done nothing this season. Eli, and the WR have been paying very well, and this should serve as a nice scrimmage to get more reps for the young wideouts. Giants to cover.
Cleveland at Baltimore (-13.5) - Baltimore may be playing the best football of any team in the league. 13.5 is a huge number, but that offense has be fluid. Can Baltimore limit their mistakes and pull out another win? Absolutely, but not when giving Cleveland 13.5 points. Baltimore to win, Cleveland +13.5.
Jacksonville at Houston (-4) - Houston finally started firing on all cylinders. Jacksonville has really lost a lot of it's swagger that they had just a few years ago. I like Houston to go to the playoffs and I see no reason to backk off that now. Houston to cover.
New Orleans at Buffalo (+6) - These two QBs have been airing it out since week 1. Neither has had a particularly bad game, and weather permitting, we should see a shootout here. A shootout between Drew brees and Trent Edwards. I wonder who wins that? I'm not picking against New Orleans until they give me a reason to. New Orleans to cover.
Chicago at Seattle (+2.5) - I believe it was about this time last season when we were discussing how terrible thee Seahawks had it with injuries. The more things change, the more they stay the same. The Seahawks are again ravaged with injuries all over the place. Chicago is coming off a huge win, and as I sid earlier, I'm not a fan of picking teams coming off of big wins. I like Chicago in this match, but take Seattle +2.5
Miami at San Diego (-6) - There really is no "must win" game this early in the season, but both teams really need this. The Broncos have miraculously started out 2-0 and the CHargers really can't afford to lose another game and fall to 1-2. Miami is 0-2 and with the upstart Jets and the Pats looking seemingly vulnerable, they really have to get a win to stay in the conversation. Miami played a virtual perfect game against Indi and still lost. I think Tony and Chad will be able to look past that and make a game out of it. San Diego to win, Miami +6.
Pittsburgh at Cincinnati (+4) - CIN-CI-NATTI SUPER-BENGALS
Denver at Oakland (+1.5) - Does Denver really stand a chance at starting 3-0 when everyone wrote them off? Well, they're playing Oakland, so of course it's possible. Oakland has choked away their first two games that were very winnable. At worst, they'll keep it very close, and I think they'll pull out their first win.
Indianapolis at Arizona (-2.5) - I had to look at this spread twice. Yes, the Cardinals are favored over the Colts. Je t'aime Garcon. Vegas, not so much apparently. Look, if your giving Indi 2.5 points against anyone with "west" in their division, I'm taking Indi.
MON, SEP 28
Carolina at Dallas (-8.5) - 8.5 isn't the spread, it's the over/under on the combined INTs thrown in this game. I think it's safe to say that Carolina is going to pull off the Baltimore rollercoaster of on and off seasons. I just cannot picture Dallas losing another game in The Death Star. I like Dallas in this game to eek out a win, but just "eek". 28-24 Dallas. Carolina +8.5.
