Yes to all of your questions. Make sure you have a legit copy before you purchase any upgrade.
well the vista on my pc is factory, but the one on my gf's pc is from the backup copy of vista i got when i recived my pc, will this effect anything
"technically" you shouldn't be able to do that in the first place, but i doubt it would actually be a problem since your vista code doesn't expire when you upgrade or anything like that. Just keep your vista key code with the vista PC and w7 code with the other, and don't say that's what you did if you ever have to call Microsoft.
Either way w7 is really polished. I've been running the RC2 for 2 months now on my new pc until final version was out and have had no problems, and my friend has had early access to the final version due to his computer science college major, and has loved it. I still need to update mine to retail version though.
k, will i need to buy two copys (one each pc) or can i just install both from 1 purchase
cna get another copy with gfs e-mail just didnt wanna spend another 30 bucks lol
Can buy the upgrade if your going from Vista > w7, right? Or does your version need to be from a certain date. $200 sounds much better then $300.
Debating if i should get w7 now, or wait a month until I buy my new SSD for the OS, since just gonna have to reinstall everything then anyways
also anyone have trouble geting e-mail? i've tried sending to my acc 4-5 times with it never showing up. Also added the e-mail to white list and nothing. Just go tech support?
Related: I installed from a MSDNAA key. If I wanted to reinstall on the same pc (Like a clean wipe) will my key work? Does it go off your HD or something? Or was it a one time installation regardless of the computer its installed on?
bah delete this ;/
you obviously didnt go far to get that info.

on topic: if I am running Vista 64 Home premium, can I upgrade to w7 Professional or do I need to buy the full thing?
you can if you get the professional 64bits
From my understanding, as long as you have any version of Windows XP or Vista, you are eligible for an upgrade; however, there are only few direct upgrade paths and that seems to be Vista X to Windows 7 X where X is home, pro, or ultimate (correct me if I'm wrong here).
If you are going XP to 7 or another version of Vista to a non-matching 7 version, you will have to clean install, but I think all you will need is your Vista CD key. I'm about to do this myself as I have Vista Ultimate and am upgrading to 7 Pro.
tl;dr -- if you want the upgrade package, you just need a legit XP or Vista key
I don't mind a clean install, I am gonna get w7 alongside my second HD (SSD drive to house the OS exclusively), so gonna have to do a clean install since need to wipe the OS from my single HD anyways. Vista came w/ my computer I had built, and I have all that software still, so should be fine on the CD key... thanks for the heads up
Win7 is the smoothest verison of Windows I have ever used. I have Ultimate, and I don't know a thing about that Win7 for Students, but I will tell you, "YES, install the damn OS asap".
Note - If you think OSX is better, you are on solid crack rocks.
I got Windows 7 a month or two ago for free from MSDNAA (yay for being a student), and installed it on my computer and my brother's with no problems. I was told you are limited to 50 installs, but I could be wrong on that number.
edit: And yes, It was a nice upgrade from XP. I can't really say if it is the "best operating system ever" or anything, I haven't used a Mac since middle school. The only real problem is certain programs (games included) won't run or install patches properly unless you run them as administrator. Which isn't really a huge problem, and you can set them to always run that way anyways.
