Because it was off before: College Football 09!

Well, I dunno about everybody else, but I'm sick of waiting lol.

Here's the most recent preseason rankings, as of July 2nd. I think USA Today and ESPN will come out with their official ones sometime this week.

College football preseason Top 25 grid - ESPN

4/5 have 3 Big 12 schools in the top 10.

5/5 have 3 SEC schools in top 10, a couple put LSU in there for 4.

It's kind of amazing, you'd have thought last year was about as intense as it gets with the way the Big 12 went, but this year has potential to be even crazier.

Anyway, here's my lists for now:

What I think the top 10 *will* be in the "official" polls in the next few weeks:

    1. Florida
    2. Texas
    3. OU
    4. USC
    5. Va Tech
    6. Bama
    7. Ohio State (6&7 may be switched)
    8. Penn State
    9. Oklahoma State
    10. Ole Miss

Here's what I think the top 10 *should* be to start the season:

    1. Florida
    2. OU
    3. Texas
    4. USC
    5. Ole Miss
    6. Oklahoma State
    7. Bama
    8. Va Tech
    9. Boise St.
    10. Penn State

I put OU ahead of Texas atm because Orakpo was an absolute beast, and OU didn't have any loss on quite that level.

And here's my predictions for the end of the year:

    1. Oklahoma State
    2. Florida
    3. Kansas
    4. Ole Miss
    5. Bama
    6. LSU
    7. Texas
    8. Boise St.
    9. Oklahoma
    10. USC

I'm officially predicting now that OkSU takes out KU in the big 12 championship, and in an epic battle against Florida is able to take full advantage of their balance, while limiting Florida's crazy playmaking ability, and therefore exposing Florida's lack of balance.

And, yeah, you read that right, I put 4 SEC teams in my predicted end of year top 6.

It must be nice not having to actually play the other good teams in your conference ;p

Seriously, though, if Florida loses a single game this year, they don't deserve to play in the NC over any of probably at least half a dozen 1 loss teams that will be in the running.

I got my season Gators tickets already! Can't wait for my (last year ) of UF football this season. Weekends are so boring without it. I'm biased though, I go there. I can't say much for rankings since I'm not knowledgeable on the subject, but Im gonna try to get better as this season goes on and catch up with this thread sometime or another.

Out of the one, maybe two saturdays a year I work, these threads had to be made on one of them.

Missing from your top 10 is Penn State (a schedule that would even be shameful for a non-BCS school), and Notre Dame (one, maybe two losses).

Also, bravo for homering up the national champ. I would have been sorely disappointed if you hadn't.

Illinois is winning the Big 10 dawg.

Also, Michigan has a chance to win vs ND at home, and I'm thinking USC and Pitt will rock them, and MSU will be a tough game.

I hope VT will be ranked that high when they play UA. Also, your end of the season predictions are a little weird. Ole Miss, UA, and LSU will be nearly impossible to have come in 4/5/6 seeing as they are in the same division in the same conference. Not say it can't happen I just don't see it happening.

    Ole Miss, #4? Whoa.

I've always been a fan but I regrettably never really kept up with their program since Eli Manning left. I didn't know they had a BCS level team this year.

I'm predicting a situation similar to Big 12 south last year, not just in the south with OU/TX/OkSU (and don't sleep on Tech), but also in the SEC west. I expect to see either Bama or Ole Miss playing Florida with 1 loss (to either the other, or LSU) as the other national semi-final. (The first being undefeated KU vs undefeated OkSU)

I'll wait a while to start on the particular big early season games, but I'll reiterate what I said a while back in NFL thread-- Miami could play their firs 4 games of the season, and no others, and be in the running for the toughest schedule of anyone this year. They're a team that's not quite veteran, but not quite young, and everywhere you look you've got guys that have played major roles in major games when they were freshmen/sophomores.

I won't put them in any of my top 10's yet, but if they go out and just romp FSU, and especially if they look good beating both FSU and GaTech, they should go into the VaTech game in the top 10. If they win that, a fluke Florida loss to Tennessee, or USC losing to Ohio State could easily make the Miami-OU game a top 5 matchup.

Also, I hate to admit it, but Ohio State should actually be reeeeally good.

I got my season ticket for Texas A&M. Hopefully they will put on some exciting games... Gators dominated in that last game (from what I remember) and hopefully ole TU (UT for you non aggies) gets kicked out of the top 10, but they are a good team and will probably do very well. And I have to agree, it looks like there will be crazier games than last year.

I will be at at least 4 of the home games for Bama this year...hopefully all of them if I can call in some favors. I am curious to see how we rebound with a new qb and some new o-line. I can't wait to play VT and get this season started. I see no reason we can't win out and play "probably" Florida in the championship again. I am picking us to end up 3 or 4 at the end of the year realistically. Starting off in the top ten is going to help us out...but we have a fairly weak strength of schedule this year, so some teams are going to have to lose for us to jump up higher.

I'm hoping Cincinnati goes to another Orange Bowl. Basically my only chance to watch them.

Bama starts their season @VT? That'll be a heart-breaker for Saban to lose your first game.

No. They start on a neutral field in Atlanta, much like last year's game against Clemson.

Also, I'm not a fan of the Oklahoma State pick. I think both Texas and Oklahoma are still better.

Also, I like LSU this year. I think they've got a lot of young talent. I feel like Ole Miss is getting way too much attention. They came under the radar last year and surprised, but now that people will expect them to be good, I just don't know if they can do it. I think it'll be between LSU and Alabama for the SEC West with Florida running away with the East.

I don't think it will be too tough. Who knows, think we (MSU) were picked 3rd in the Big 10 preseason poll behind OSU and Penn. There are a lot of returning players but I'm very skeptical because we relied so much on Ringer and Hoyer. It's always a little worrying to see your two stars leave. MSU should have a bowl game, hopefully.

Florida will definitely come out on top again. It wouldn't surprise me at all.

    Purdue Baby!

Yeah the Ole Miss thing is quite a shock, they are much improved and it'll be interesting what Nutt and Snead can do this season.

    Go Penn State?

Who am I kidding, I could really care less about College Football. Maybe if they put a decent system in place to pick a real champion I might get back into it. I'm gonna make a crazy prediction right now and say SEC champ vs Big 12 champ in the title game. I know, totally off my rocker on that one.

I'll still watch it anyway though, not much else to watch Saturday afternoons in the fall and I'm still a fan of the game itself.
