    Paying for Services Rendered

Normally I really don't care about this but a discussion came up in my linkshell about it so I decided to let the masses decide on this.

I'm in Port Sandy Fishing and I get a tell from a random stranger asking me for a D2. I tell him "Ok that'll be 1k." He replies and says he doesn't have any cash so I end it at that.

I mention this on my shell and I'm told that an action like this from me would be considered as being greedy.

Now before people think anything else, I don't charge friends, Linkshell members or people I've known for awhile anything for a port or a D2.

So my question is, Should I just give it for free or am I'm being greedy and selfish by not being nice and D2ing some random stranger who asks me to stop what I'm doing to help them?

My own answer is of course if you're asking me to do something for you and I don't know you then yes I'll charge you even if it's only 1k.

I'm in the same boat, I never make my friends or Linkshell members pay even if they want too. Now random people I'll ask for 1k min, anymore is extra in my book.

Asking to be payed for a raise is greedy.
Asking to be given a retrace for free when the normal convention is for mages to charge for it when you can get your own goddamned scroll from an npc is greedy on the part of the person whom asked you to stop fishing(aka making money) to get him somewhere he is perfectly capable of walking to on his own and lazy as fuck.

As a crafter I have a "I don't know you or like you" fee and a "LS / friend fee"

Only time I'll do stuff for free is if the person has done something really cool for me or I owe them.

You're a greedy douche bag, if an old lady asked you to help her across the street I bet you'd be like "$5 PLZ"

I'd totally charge 'em. If they really wanted to get from point A to point B quickly it shouldn't be an issue. Of course I was there when to partake in this discussion and was on the "time is $$$" side.

I don't see any problem with this either. Free for friends, not for strangers.

I almost never give D2s, Retraces, or Teleports; But when I do I never charge, I just send the person on their way.

On the flipside, when someone helps me I always toss something their way and have only encountered a few people who denied.

Paying for services rendered is pretty well known in FFXI and your certainly not being greedy for requiring compensation for your efforts.

It would depend entirely on my mood but I'd usually Retrace people in WG for free if they came to me even if they were offering to pay.

While we're on the subject...I hate when you pay someone for a tele and they expect you to come to them.

    Dude, it's 2004 again.

If people ask me to teleport them, I usually just ignore them.

Usually the only time I teleport for free is when I'm in a bad party, and I decide to Celerity Recall them to Meriphataud Mountains [S].

I take a look at them and judge if they should pay or not. If it's some noob in Sandy asking for a Teleport-Holla so he can go die with his friends in the Dunes, I'll do it for free as long as I'm not in a huge rush or something. If it's some guy I don't know in Whitegate who is wearing Salvage pieces and wants a Retrace, I'd expect him to throw down 2k to make me stop pretending to be AFK. In situations like that, I don't discuss payment, invite to party, and just don't cast anything until they trade me.

What if you're say in Jugner and the person is in the dunes offering you gil. Should you give it for free still even tho you're having to go that way?

Because I've seen so many WHMs get bugged to shit in other zones for a Raise like that so I see no problem with them charging for their time to come scrape your ass up.

If I'm on a job that can raise, and I see a dead person, saying "looks like your dead, 10k for raise, pay up nigga" is pretty greedy. If someone asks me to travel to find their corpse, for free, they can go fk themselves.

Agree 100% with this. There is a pretty normal/accepted price for d2/retrace/teleports, if someone knows this price, has even paid it in the past, and is trying to get you to do it for free, they are being greedy. If some noob without a subjob sees you at a crag and asks for a warp2, you're greedy if you won't do it 'cause of gil.

As for raises, you say it's greedy to ask for gil, what is it when I check people in Nyzul, then if I don't approve of their gear choices, I just walk on by and ignore them when they offer gil? I'll totally raise them for free if they don't look retarded. That being said, people that don't gear in a retarded fashion are much less likely to end up in a pile outside nyzul...

Since when did it become the norm to expect every single character to be Michael Jordan/Wayne Gretzky/Babe Ruth caliber? Not everyone can be a pimp, an all star. I'll offer a raise to the person in the group who has raise, and leave the rest to that person. Saying "SORRY LOL UR GEAR SUX" is retarded.

I feel if the person is lazy, I will charge them for it. I do not want people bugging me for warps because they do not feel like blood warping on a low level job (or getting blm to 17 and getting warp) or because they are too lazy to run to the maw to go to the past.

    For friends its always free.

I do something similar for crafting. If the person is going to profit off my craft, I will charge them. If they need it for some quest/guild point items/random furnishing for their MH/etc., I craft it for free.

Being intelligently geared, not perfectly geared.

If someone needs a retrace/d2, and has no money, i'd usually give them one for free, but anyone who thinks they deserve a free retrace can go kill themselves.

Good sir if they are able to track you down to even ask for said raise they either got help from a lsmate to find you or they dualboxed in which case thier lazy ass either A should be asking the lsmate to help or B get their dual boxed character to 25 whm and raise thier own ass. This is also completely ignoring the fact that if you die in the middle of nowhere and don't have a raise coming within 5 minutes your ass should just hp and run back. Wanting to save a little buffer is stupid as shit nowadays when exp parties(not merits) get 10~20k per hour on average .
So in other words your input was completely worthless since anyone retarded enough to expect a random person to track them down across an entire zone in order to save 3k(?) exp at worst needs to home point their ass nor would it be reasonable to even consider such an occurrence to be a common/reasonable situation when past lv 50 all mages in pt will have reraise, fov people can grab RR, and pixies wander the past dishing out r3 wherever they go.
